Movie Star Interview: MIJOO on Belonging on Stage, Making Her Anticipated Solo Debut and More

Leaving her old days at Woollim Entertainment’s Lovelyz behind, MIJOO opened up about being her best self on the stage in the new Movie Star interview video released on May 13, 2023. With only a few days left before her official solo debut as a K-pop idol, various videos have been published to promote the upcoming musical release on her social media platforms.

In 2021, MIJOO left her former entertainment agency and joined another record label, Antenna. Then, in January 2023, she took on the first major role as one of the 32nd Seoul Music Awards hosts. This gave her another golden opportunity to shine on stage, where she works the best as she also mentions in her upcoming album’s newly released interview film.

For her, the stage is where “she can truly showcase who” she is. Divided into several scenes or chapters, the video then covers different stages of her life, with the first one going back to the very beginning, i.e. when she was in elementary school. On attending a school camp, she first discovered her love for performing during a talent show. Once she felt that synergy between herself and the audience watching and cheering her on, she never looked back or felt shy about shining in the spotlight in such talent shows.

After that, her story reached a point when she held such thoughts deep within her imagination. Holding on to bigger dreams than before, she aspired to become like the professional singers she looked up to as her role models. Imitating them came first, followed by her wistful longing to perform like them. And then came her first goal to become a trainee, which could help her achieve her dreams of debuting as a singer.

Through this process of self-reflection, MIJOO recalls every stage that went into finally taking her well-deserved spot on the stage. Despite the arduous training process that followed, she was willing to endure it all as long as her journey led her to the one destination she revered the most in her heart.

Now, with the final step of reaching out to step into the spotlight again nearing her with every breath, she only hopes everyone will like her music. Leading the “half, half, half” mindset and feeling “half scared, half excited, half nervous”, MIJOO has risen high as the protagonist of her life and is ready to take on any challenge that comes her way.

Lastly, she concludes her video message by thanking her fans for enduring the wait as long as she did and still wishing her the best. Her forthcoming title track’s music video is set to feature cameos by Lee Hyori and Lee Yi-kyung. Hyori and MIJOO share the same entertainment label.
