While there is truly nothing like the Barbie and Oppenheimer rivalry that has consumed the internet recently. The following movie rivalries, like Barbenheimer, are films that were released on the same day, and it is truly boggling that they were all attributed to changing or commenting on culture in some way. The following films would have never been expected to have released on the same day, but they were, and they give a sense of deja vu that nothing could have given.
Even though there wasn’t a big social and public event with these films, it is still fascinating to see that they were all released on the same day. Both films were received incredibly well by both people and critics alike. Therefore, one must start a marathon of watching films like these together. To make your job a little easier, check out the starter list below.
Movie Rivalries Like Barbie Vs Oppenheimer aka Barbenheimer
The Matrix vs Ten Things I Hate About You

Can you imagine a movie iconic like these two? They truly rule pop culture in a way that cannot be defined. Every popular movie, show, or piece of art references themes, dialogues or at least some kind of trope from these two films. It is brilliant how they are embedded in the social psyche. The first was a watershed moment in action and science fiction, while the second was a big moment in understanding the romance and social drama genre in such a different way. It is fantastic.
Starring Keanu Reeves, Lawrence Fishburne and others, The Matrix is currently streaming on JioCinema, and starring Heath Ledger, Julia Stiles and others, Ten Things I Hate About You is currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
The Dark Knight vs Mamma Mia

Nolan is back! With the Batman movie, it felt like he was defining how the superhero genre must be done, while the latter definitely changed the way we understood a family film. There is no other popcorn flick like that. Additionally, imagining the differences between the two of them is the same as imagining the difference between Barbenheimer. Their vibes are so different, but once again, the cast is crazy, the writing is out of this world, and the people behind this film are absolutely brilliant.
Starring Christian Bale, Heath Ledger and others, The Dark Knight is currently streaming on JioCinema, and starring Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and others, Mamma Mia is also currently streaming on JioCinema.
Elvis vs Marcel the Shell with Shoes On

Musically and lyrically brilliant, the first one was about understanding the person that changed the course of music history in a way none of us could imagine, while the second also did something auditorily similar, except that it was with animation. Jenny Slate was in the voice acting space, and the kind of skill it takes to carry on the same voice for an hour and a half was impressive. Austin Butler is probably feeling the lack here, so obviously, his voice became the beacon we needed to reach the artist in the best way possible.
Starring Austin Butler, Tom Hanks and others, Elvis is currently available to rent on Amazon Prime Video, and starring Jenny Slate, Rosa Salazar and others, Marcel the Shell with Shoes On is currently available to rent on Apple TV+.
Saawariya vs Om Shanti Om

Drama is already on the max level but imagine a stellar filmmaker and a stellar actor going head to head. While the first one had an actor making his debut, the second one showed an actor playing characters in a way that had never been done before. Talk about period pieces because both of these films did something so fundamental when it came to culture that people still haven’t been able to get over it. Better yet, add the music from both these films, and it makes sense why they would be plotted against each other.
Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor and others, Saawariya is currently streaming on YouTube, and starring Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and others, Om Shanti Om is currently streaming on Netflix.
Dilwale vs Bajirao Mastani

Bringing back something from the past could have never been so nostalgic, but it could be done when it comes to Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, both of whom are extremely talented. Similarly, there is another pair that took the internet by storm, and it is Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. If both these films removed their plots, it wouldn’t matter because the chemistry itself could carry the rest of the story. While one brought back more recent lore fresh in the mind of the audience, the other dug a deeper trench to pull out this story.
Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and others, Dilwale is currently streaming on Netflix and starring Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and others, Bajirao Mastani is currently streaming on JioCinema.
