-MasterChef India Season 7 Episode 7 Review and Recap Contains Spoilers-
In the last episode, we saw that the selected people would receive full immunity for one week and the two winners were Nayanjyoti, and the next was Nazia. The judges said that Kamaldeep was a close second, and the episode ended on that note.
In tonight’s episode, we saw Chef Garima Arora cook up a dish that could be seen in her Michelin-starred restaurant in Bangkok and that was our cue for the next challenge. The contestants were asked to make pan-Asian dishes but only from the ingredients that are available in India and not the original ones.
They were only given 5 minutes in the pantry to pick out all the ingredients that they will need and get cooking within the limited time period. Also, another challenge was that out of the remaining contestants, only 8 dishes will be selected for evaluation and out of which another two contestants with join the Gallery.

We could see that the contestants were quick to analyse the situation in the second round and didn’t waste a minute trying to sit and think of what to make and how. There were also moments when things were not going right, the chef judges were quick to help the contestants and give them tips that were helpful in the process.
Among the selected dishes, we first saw Santa present Chinese steam dumplings which had shitake mushroom filling and as for the vinegar taste, she used lemon instead. When judges asked why she chose the dumplings, then her answer aptly said, ‘because it’s cute’. This dish got her many compliments.
Secondly, Suvarna brought a Thai dessert called bua loy which consists of rice flour rolled into small balls, and cooked in coconut milk and sugar. She also added pumpkin and sweet potato balls in it making every bite, tasteful. Followed by Kamaldeep who made Japanese Soba noodles with buckwheat. The judges liked her dish but had one small complaint about the lack of broth.

Priyanka, the cake artist, decided to play with her strength and made Vietnamese Banh, which is a flat cake made from coffee. However, the dish didn’t do the wonders as expected, since the flavour of the coffee was too overpowering the other ingredients. After her, Sachin presented his Gochujang ice cream topped with dalgona candy and peanuts with coconut.
The chefs commented that it lacked acidity which is a staple in gochujang, due to the fermentation process. Meanwhile, Avinash won the judges with his hot noodles which were essentially called the ‘soul food’. Following that Deepa was called upon to present her dish which consisted of chicken satay with Thai peanut sauce made with coconut.
Even though it was a very simple dish, she got all the flavours right and the judges couldn’t find any mistakes. Lastly, Aruna brought another Thai dish called Miang Kham but made into a vegetarian version. She had used Indian beetle leaves instead of the Thai ones, which are sweeter but the overall combination was applauded by the judges.

Final Thoughts: MasterChef India Season 7 Episode 7
The round ended with Suvarna and Aruna winning the challenge and immunity with the other two selected contestants and joining them in the Gallery. Also, Gurkirat shows how to make mushroom Bruschetta as a product placement of the mayo brand. Although I am happy to see more about the food and getting to learn about it, it was a shame that not everyone was shown.
We saw Urmila Baa making a noodle dish and even Gurkirat working hard on something, yet we never get to know what they made and why were they rejected from the top 8 selections. Every contestant should get enough screen time or at least what they made, even briefly.
The creators and editors of the show really need to get their priorities right, there can be enough suspense and thrill without zooming in on the judge’s faces all the time, when they pick up the spoon and give those precious minutes to other contestants who are just background props, at the moment.
MasterChef India Season 7 is currently streaming on SonyLIV and a new episode will be released from Monday to Friday at 9 PM.
