MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 5 is called ‘Great Aussie Jaffle Elimination Challenge’. Judges Andy Allen, Melissa Fumero and Jock Zonfrillo, explained the two-round elimination challenge to the contestants. Julie from the Favourites isn’t a part of the challenge as she won immunity for this week. Melanie from the Fans isn’t participating this time as both the teams need to be balanced.
The judges explain that the teams are divided and Fans and Favourites. Both the teams are given 45 minutes to cook a dish using a jaffle maker. The team that makes the best dish will be saved from the second elimination round.

The Fans and Favourites want to give their best in the first elimination round. After brainstorming a lot on what needs to be cooked, they finally decide on a dish. However, the Favourites win the first challenge. Miloni’s dish chicken and potato jaffle impress judges the most. Her delicious dish saves the Favourites from entering the second round.
In the second elimination round of MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 5, the Fans have to make a dish that changed their lives. The contestants are given 75 minutes to cook the dish. Harry had an immunity pin, and the judges asked if she would like to use it. Harry decides not to use and pin and be a part of the elimination challenge.
Every contestant wants to give their best as no one wants to be the first one to be eliminated. However, three contestants have struggled to put up a good dish. The pumpkin in Harry’s dish wasn’t well seasoned, and her lentils were also not properly cooked. Max decided to make a Sim’s Raspberry tart for the judges. However, his tart is undercooked.

Chris also makes the weakest dish in the elimination round. He decided to cook Mì Xào Giòn. However, he burns the first set of noodles while cooking. Despite having a backup, his dish ends up having many flaws. Chris didn’t change the oil before frying his second batch of noodles. Hence, the dish had a burnt noodle taste in the end.
Harry, Max and Chris served the weak dish in the elimination challenge. However, the judges believed that Chris’ dish was the weakest. Hence, he was eliminated from the competition. Chris is the first contestant to be eliminated from MasterChef Australia Season 14. He took to his Twitter page to share his thoughts.
Chris wrote, “I entered the competition with zero expectation; I just wanted to cook and learn from some of the best cooks and chefs around the country. I may not have been there for long but I’m now even more inspired and motivated than I was coming in.”
MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 5 Recap: Final Thoughts
The first round of episode 5 was quite delicious and interesting. However, Harry’s dish had more faults than Chris’. So I am not sure if Chris should be the one going home. But it’s the judges who taste the dish, and they know it better. One can only trust that they might have made a fair decision. It was sad to see Chris going home. But let’s hope he gets better and fulfils his dreams one day.
