MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 40 Recap: A Dish that Makes You Travel Around the World

It is elimination day in MasterChef Australia Season 14 before we finally get our top ten. According to the last episode, Daniel has secured himself a seat at the top ten with his choc top leaving the rest of the contestants to compete in MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 40. The episode is titled ‘Rick Stein’s All-In Postcard Elimination.’ It has a runtime of 71 minutes.

Legendary chef Rick Stein is the special guest in this episode and the contestants are overjoyed to see the icon himself standing in front of them. As Stein is very well known for travelling around the world and cooking, the contestants are presented with cooking a dish that will transform the judges and Stein to a different place- be it a holiday destination or their hometown.

Before the elimination challenge begins, the judges surprise the contestants with the information that Rick Stein is going to cook for them! The guest Chef decides to cook a Madras Fish Curry that he learned when he was in India. Montana helps the Chef to prepare his dish. Accompanied by Rice and Kachumber Salad, all the contestants have a taste of the delicious delicacy.

The contestants are given 75 minutes to cook their respective dishes which is being called postcard dishes. The pantry and the garden are open for use. The least impressive dish in the MasterChef Kitchen will get eliminated leaving us with our top ten.

As the episode progresses, we get to know who is picking up which place to represent in their dish. Keyma goes for Italy as Michael goes for San Francisco. Julie picks a dish that summarizes her memory with her husband on a rainy trip to Paris. Some contestants stick to their homeplace speciality whereas some take us around the world.

When it is time for tasting, Billie is the first one to serve her dish. It is Spanish Shellfish Stew and judges absolutely love it because it is so phenomenally good. Aldo’s dish is a Parmigiana and Meatballs and it just hits right with the judges. Tommy presents a Banh Khot and Rick Stein as well as the judges love it!

Mindy’s Satay Ayam is flavourful as is Alvin’s Nasi Lemak. Keyma brings to the table a Fileja alla Nduja and it is a really good dish. Julie’s dish is a Coq au Vin and, although she does not feel confident about her dish, much like Keyma, it is a beautiful one according to the judges. Cioppino by Michael somehow fails to stand out. The fish is a perplexing cook and the basics of the dish are not done right.

Sarah’s dish is a Crab Xacuti. The judges have fun breaking the dish open as it tastes massively good to get the entire table and their clothes messy. Montana’s sweet little Christmas Dinner dish is cooked nicely but seems to lack the essence the judges are looking for in this challenge.

MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 40: Who Gets Eliminated?

It is no surprise that Montana and Michael’s dishes are the ones that did not stand out in the crowd. Unfortunately, it is Michael who faces elimination just before he can enter the top ten of MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 40.

MasterChef Australia Season 14 Episode 40 was a beautiful theme letting us know the contestants better. Yes, it was unfortunate to see Michael get eliminated. However, the stories shared by Keyma, Julie and others about their dishes were heartwarming and made us connect to the cooks better. Now, with the top ten decided, it is going to be a strong and competing space to see who wins the title for MasterChef Australia Season 14!
