MasterChef Australia Season 13 Episode 47 Review: Wow Factor

MasterChef Australia Season 13 Episode 47 is called DIY Pressure Test Dish, in which the judges want the WOW factor in contestants’ dishes. The team challenge winners (Kishwar, Tommy, Linda, Justin and Minoli) will be a part of this challenge. These contestants were told to write their recipe (a sweet dish) a day before, which should feature vanilla. Judges Andy Allen, Melissa Leong and Jock Zonfrillo will select two WOW dishes, and their makers will be sent for the Immunity Challenge.

Usually, Pressure Tests meant elimination. But everything is different this week. Hence, the way this challenge will be held is also going to be unique. After a long time, blind tasting for judges is back on MasterChef Australia Season 13. They will not be in the kitchen when the contestants are cooking. A professional chef will guide the cooks for 2 hours of cooking time.

The chef guiding these five cooks for their Pressure Test in MasterChef Australia Season 13 Episode 47 is Darren Purchese. Everyone is excited to have him in the competition as he is a well-known pastry chef. As the judges won’t know who cooked what, all five contestants want to present a spectacular dish to help them get in the immunity challenge.

Justin decides to cook a dish called ‘The Gift’. The dessert consists of Beetroot and Vanilla Mousse with a Lemon curd centre, chocolate soil, and Vanilla Apples covered with Isomalt Cellophane. He struggled a lot to get his Cellophane bubble but eventually manages to get it right.

Minoli is racing against the time as she decides to challenge herself with something she has rarely made – Pineapple Tarte Tatin with Vanilla Bourbon Ice cream. She steps out of her comfort zone and worries for her pastry during the entire cook.

Linda decides to relish her childhood memories of eating kanom dok bua. So she decides to elevate it more and cooks Lotus Flower Pond. It is a Lotus cookie with caramelised Banana puree, Vanilla Ice cream and a granita. During the cook, Linda freaks out a bit when the flavour isn’t balanced rightly. Hence, she adds granita to her dish to bring together everything.

Kishwar makes a beautiful looking Persian Vanilla Pepper Kulfi with Rose Ice and Pistachio Sable. She draws henna designs on her Pistachio Sable, and it looks delicate and pretty. The contestant reminisces her childhood days of eating Kulfi as a kid at Juhu beach in Mumbai.

The last vanilla dessert dish of MasterChef Australia Season 13 Episode 47 belongs to Tommy. Tommy cooks Flanilla – a Flan with Tapioca Pearls, Vanilla Jelly and Vietnamese Coffee Granita. Throughout the cook, Tommy was chill and excited to feed the judges his dish.

MasterChef Australia Season 13 judges taste all the dishes in the tasting room without having any idea who cooked what. They loved Minoli’s Pineapple Tarte Tatin, but her pastry was a bit raw. The judges are amazed by Justin’s Gift dessert and love how it tastes. But it doesn’t make Vanilla shine as they expected. Linda’s Lotus Flower Pond not only appeals to them, but they enjoy every bit of the vanilla dessert.

The judges are mind-blown to see Kishwar’s Persian dessert. They enjoy the taste too but find the kulfi a bit grainy (that’s how kulfis are!). Tommy’s Flanilla makes them happy, and they love its texture, the balance and how it makes vanilla sing in it. The judges think Linda and Tommy’s dishes have the WOW factor they are looking for.

MasterChef Australia Season 13 Episode 47 ends with Linda and Tommy entering the Immunity Challenge.

MasterChef Australia Season 13 Episode 47: What’s next?

The remaining contestants will have an emotional cook in the next episode as they get sweet messages from their family members. Inspired by those emotions, these cooks have to make the best dish, and two contestants will get a chance to join Tommy and Linda for the Immunity Challenge.

MasterChef Australia Season 13 Episode 47 is currently streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
