Love Through A Prism looks and feels very much like a painting, an element that forms the core theme of this anime. Here, we see Lili, an heiress of a kimono shop, trying her best to not only survive but also excel in her journey to become a painter, so that she can escape from her family’s archaic rules. In an era where women are not allowed to do most things, Lili believes her journey to London, a Kingdom run by a queen, can be the only way for her to freedom. Compared to her country, London seems like heaven, where equality still feels a possibility for Lili.

Thus, rather than dilly-dallying on anything, the only thing Lili must focus on is to become the best in her class, at least within six months. This is the only way her mother will allow her to stay in London and for her to escape an arranged marriage, while furthering her studies. However, a major thorn in her way is an enigmatic young man named Kit Church, who is quite an oddball. Their first meeting was not at all great, and the start of their journey was anything but romantic.

Yet, when Lily starts to see the brilliance of Kit, something shifts in their dynamic. The story is pretty simple because it is built on the classic enemies-to-lovers trope. Lili, who starts off with practically hating Kit, starts to fall for his unique charms after spending more time with him.  However, the anime does not focus on just the love angle, as it also dives deep into the aspect of personal growth. As someone who always felt out of place, Lili tried to excel by copying those around her, but it only left her frustrated. It’s only when she discovers her own path that she begins to succeed in a way that truly feels like hers.

The anime is very much rooted in preestablished shoujo conventions, and it does a brilliant job of depicting that in a beautiful way. Wit Studio obviously produces a picturesque anime that showcases England in all its Victorian pastoral glory. Every frame looks like an oil painting, and even the art pieces produced by the characters really capture each individual’s temperament truthfully. Thus, rather than just the romance, the anime emerges as a genuinely interesting entertainment medium that everyone should watch.

Love Through A Prism Review

I absolutely loved Love Through A Prism, as it is a refreshing love story built on familiar, heartwarming themes. The characters are lovable and relatable, precisely because none of them come off as perfect. They are very human in their nature and awkward when it comes to love. In the end, you will not just appreciate Kit and Lili, but also the supporting characters, who add layers to the story. This was definitely one of the best romance anime I have seen in a long time, and I would obviously recommend everyone to give it a try.

  1. Its fine i guess, its little bit similar to the anime: the apothecary diaries type, but in another time line,

Too me i find that time line old london weird and kinda boring, it looks like its no war or trouble at all, nothing happening not even a burglar sight,

Or jack the ripper??? Could been a mystery show, a bit murder stuff,

Its always a perfect boring world,

Its funny now and then, funny faces and some colourfull effects,

But its ALWAYS the same color effects then that clumsy girl falling or hitting herself,

And painting stuff not my style, its the same as that golf anime stuff, i just give up on that real quickly,

So this is not a fantasy where the painting comes to life and threatening people or scare them like ghost, thats had been funny, and fight them with paint, paint a gun/sword on the paper and they would be able to take it out and use it…

  2. A bit on the stiff formal stuff, always stiff dressed, going out always rich Nobel stuff,

Art and painting if you are doing as hobby and likes art talking, don’t know if any history in this show is based on real thing, could use some talk about mona lisa or piccaso talk, Michaelangelo the famous roff painter, leonardo da vinci, and other to get people who like this stuff interested,

Its okies with old stuff and big old buildings, with lords and blue blood kings, if your interested in old architecture,

It has some funny moments here and there, mostly about the clumsy main girl,

She falling on the ground like every episodes so far, I’m at ep 5, the floor in episode 5 is the size of a soccer field empty, yet she manage to fall flat on her face, its kinda get outdated real quick,

And the train scene, the kids drinking red wine, they looks a bit underage….but cool to see old trains, if you’re into that…

Maybe later the kids could do some actually fun in freetime, show how they have fun in london, if there is places to go at all at that time line, a festival somwhere perhaps…away from school stuff….
