Josh Brolin has been a part of a lot of superhero movies. The actor has gone on from playing the all-powerful Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to playing Cable in the 2018 movie Deadpool 2. But no matter how big and grand these roles are, the actor has expressed how he had a bigger opportunity presented to him at one point of time and, how he lost on it.
The Dune actor revealed that he was a solid contender to play the role of DC’s favourite superhero, The Batman in the Zack Synder Universe. But, it was unfortunate that Brolin lost the role to fellow actor Ben Affleck, who went on to make a couple of Batman movies before Robert Pattinson was bought in to reboot the franchise yet again in the 2022 movie by Matt Reeves. Affleck, meanwhile, made his debut playing the Caped Crusader in the 2016 film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
During an interview at the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Josh Brolin disclosed this fact along with stating that it was interesting for him to play the part and, was eager to make a contribution as The Batman in the DC Universe had Synder not gone in a different direction. The reason Brolin revealed he was keen on being a part of the project was that he liked the odds of the film either being a success or a total failure. The Milk actor said, “Something that is set up to not work at all or to work flyingly — I like those odds. I like playing with those odds. I’m like, ‘Am I the guy who’s gonna make it all fail?’”

However, this is not the first time the actor has talked about this incident. In a conversation with Comic Book Movie in 2018, Brolin remarked that he was happy with the way things worked out for him and it was for the best. He further added that he was glad certain things did not manifest and that is probably for the best.
As of now, Josh Brolin is starring in Amazon Prime Video’s Outer Range.
