Jerry Springer: Fights Camera Action Review

Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action brings to us the behind-the-scenes of the infamous talk show that swept the television culture into a new age where the more brutal the fight, the higher your ratings. This documentary brings interviews of those who worked behind the camera during the growing years of the show, and how one man changed it all for the host- Jerry Springer.

This two-episode documentary brings about an intriguing look into the show that was labelled the worst in television history by the anchor himself. Taking us behind the camera, we see how the most ruthless producer- Richard Dominick joins hands with the ex-politician and news anchor Jerry Springer, to bring about a show that changed history. With flying chairs, intense brawls, nudity, insanity and more taking up the stage, this show certainly knew no bounds and changed the meaning of entertainment in the 90s.

Coming back to the documentary, prepare yourself for a wild ride because not only will you see the genius that went behind changing the show forever, but also the ruthlessness of the entertainment talk show. It doesn’t just stop at bringing bizarre stories to every screen in the country but proceeds to tap into the minds of the people who are going on stage to bring the best of entertainment to the people.

I have to say, this documentary is quite intense for viewers because it shows the brutality of people who want to reach for higher ratings. The limits crossed by the people behind the cameras to make it possible for them to beat Oprah are eye-opening. Surely, the show managed to reach a new height of success, but the cost that they have to pay for these actions is to lose their humanity. The documentary touches on these aspects of the show’s success and leaves the audience struck.

While there are irresistible hints of nostalgia for many viewers of this documentary, it also proves to be an eye-opener to understanding a different side of entertainment. While the show may have left, we still see its remains in some of the highly popular reality shows of today. It proved that the more the fights, the higher the ratings; and this is something that unfortunately holds true even today.

On the other hand, the documentary itself is well-made and makes you look at two sides of the coin throughout the two episodes. On one hand, we have the show’s producer Richard Dominick who is proud of what he made the show into. On the other hand, we have Tobias Yoshimura who speaks of the show just as proudly, but he also speaks of the loss of humanity he began to feel as the strain to remain number one became heavy on him.

While both are proud of the way they worked like maniacs for the show, there is a difference in their tones as times changed and their journey with the show came to an end. There is no doubt that The Jerry Springer Show was a hit once upon a time, but seeing this documentary also makes you understand why it was one of the worst shows ever.
