IT – Welcome to Derry Episode 5 Recap
After questioning Taniel about Pennywise’s location, Dick tells Francis Shaw that they got the information that they wanted, leaving them to fill Leroy in about everything. Meanwhile, Lilly visits Marge in the hospital, and the two make amends. In a shocking twist, the kids find a traumatised Matty at their secret hideout, who recounts his horrible experience in the sewers. The group implores him to go to the police and save Hank and Phil, but he refuses.

At the base, Francis decides to capture Pennywise as soon as possible and win the cold war, but Leroy wonders what to do about his family, who are now trapped in Derry. Rose eventually confronts Francis about keeping Taniel locked up, and after having a brief discussion, decides to help Taniel get out by accompanying them into the sewers and advises him to keep the shard near him at all times.
The next day, Charlotte gets news about Hank’s escape, while Lilly and her friends decide to go down into the sewers to try and save Phil. Meanwhile, the military closes off an entire street to get down to business at the Neibolt Street house as a dangerous adventure starts.

In the sewers, Dick and his team face off against dangerous hallucinations as they try and find Pennywise’s location, as more and more people are taken by him. Meanwhile, the kids, after taking Terri’s pills, walk into the sewers, but learn too late that Matty is dead and this is just another one of Pennywise’s tricks. Elsewhere in the sewers, Dick, Leroy, and Pauly face one hallucination after another and must face them to get out alive.
It’s the kids who encounter Pennywise in the end who chase them through the sewers. In a shocking situation, Leroy, on edge and very aware of the tricks, points his gun at the screaming kids and almost shoots Will when Pauly realises that these kids are real and stands in between them instead, getting shot and dying in the end. As Pauly dies, Lilly gets separated from the crew and walks around the sewers in fear, eventually facing Pennywise alone.

Things seem almost over for Pennywise as he rushes towards her, ready to eat her, until he suddenly stops in his tracks and eventually backs off. Thankfully for Lilly, Taniel’s shard lies in front of her in the water and saves her from being eaten alive. The next morning, Hank finds himself in Ingrid’s car, and we finally realise that she’s the person he is having an affair with. Desperate to keep him safe, she approaches Charlotte to help Hank.
Thankfully, Dick makes his way out of the sewers the next morning as well, but finds Pauly wandering in the woods. He is left shocked when he sees that he’s not dead. With his powers now in full use
IT – Welcome to Derry Episode 5 Review

With Pennywise now here, the series has finally picked up steam and has delivered a fantastic continuation from last week. The way the episode builds is absolutely tense, and the mixing of supernatural horror with the horrors surrounding racism delivers absolutely terrifying consequences. The episode, for the first time since its release, has made me look forward to where the story goes from here and with Dick Halloran now having opened his full potential, things are about to get very messy!
