IT – Welcome to Derry Episode 3 Recap
The episode opens with a young Francis getting a scare at a carnival, clearly set quite a few years earlier. He starts a friendship with a young girl, Rose, and eventually finds himself in the woods while playing with her. In the forest, he comes across an ominous being, possibly IT, hunting for his next meal, and just as he’s about to be devoured, Rose saves him. But IT has no plans to let them go.
In the present, Lilly is in Juniper Hill, getting advice from the head of the housekeeping staff, who tells her that she believes her. In jail, Hank gets questioned by Chief Clint Bowers, who tries to pin everything on him. Although Hank continues to plead his innocence, Bowers refuses to believe her based on Lilly’s testimony.

As Ronnie gets bullied at school, Lilly, now out of the hospital, promises to make it right and comes up with a plan to photograph the creature so that people can see it with their own eyes. Meanwhile, General Francis Shaw plans to put Dick Hallorann in the air to find where the entity is, to the surprise of his colleague. As Halloran takes to the air and guides the aircraft to the right location, a heated meeting commences with the Native American residents of the area, wherein a now adult Rose tries to stop the land from being sold.
Meanwhile, Halloran gets visions of Pennywise that make him act out and leave his colleagues shocked as he tries to open the plane’s doors. Realising that Pennywise has “seen” them, he warns Francis of staying away from the entity, but he refuses to change his mind. Elsewhere, Ronnie and Lilly recruit Rich and Will to help them develop the photos. Although initially hesitent, they decide to help them in the end.

Francis goes to meet Rose later, and the two get to reminisce about old times, until Francis pulls out the cease and desist letter that she sent to the military. Realising that he’s in charge of the digs, she questions why he’s going to these lengths and desecrating their sacred burial grounds, and, in response, he asks for her help to keep their areas safe and dig away from them. Rose agrees to help them, but remains sceptical about their intentions.
The kids, meanwhile, come up with ways to take a picture of Pennywise to help Hank, and Rich tells them a story of being able to conjure beings using candles and whatnot. That night, Dick goes to Leroy’s house and they talk about his experience on the plane, and it comes out that he was one of Leroy’s attackers. He mentions how it’s odd that Leroy was only analysing and collecting information as someone held a gun to his head, as if he was completely unable to feel fear in any way.

Meanwhile, the kids try to figure out how to conjure Pennywise and conduct a seance in a cemetery. Although it goes terribly at first, after Ronnie and Lilly leave, Pennywise ends up making his presence known, leaving the kids to scramble out of the cemetery. After a tough fight, thankfully, all the kids are safe, and they end up capturing a nice, clear picture of what they went through. But, of course, capturing Pennywise on film comes with its own set of challenges!
IT – Welcome to Derry Episode 3 Review

Ok, I am just going to say it – this series is far too slow for a weekly release and leaves you rather bored from one episode to the next. Although some interesting things are happening and a lot of conversations surrounding racism, mental health struggles and whatnot, the horror aspect is taking sort of a backseat and is ending up being rather difficult to hold on to. Maybe the upcoming episodes will be better, but this one should’ve released all of its episodes together to really amp up the thrills. Because week to week, I am losing patience and forgetting what I was supposed to be scared of in the first place.
