Istanbul Encyclopedia Ending Explained: As Nesrin’s days in the country slowly come to an end, there is a mess waiting to be cleared before she leaves. On the other hand, Zehra is finding it hard to find a place to stay. How will their journey go to the next step?

The plot of the story follows two women belonging to different generations, going through a period of going against each other to later finding themselves being reflected in each other. These two are women with dreams and a wish to be free in a world where they can stand with an identity that they create for themselves. Zehra is a young girl who moves to Istanbul to pursue her university education. Nesrin is her mother’s estranged friend who shelters her but has plans to leave the country to be freed of her attachments in Istanbul. Where one’s dreams begin, another’s finds flight, and the two embark on a journey of finding themselves once again.

In the final episode, Zehra’s struggle with finding her identity continues as her confusion brings her emotional instability. However, she is slowly finding her way through the turmoil she is going through as she finally takes the step to break free on stage. Meanwhile, Nesrin is adamant about leaving for France regardless of what everyone else wishes. As she takes up her responsibilities once again, she comes to terms with her sister and helps break free from the bad relationship that they’ve had for years.

How Does Zehra Find Herself Again?

While on stage, Zehra goes off script and takes the time to talk about her inner turmoil about her identity. She finally opens up about everything that she has felt over the past days and the struggles she has had when living a dual life. Her faith that she has followed since childhood clashes with the person she becomes in Istanbul; however, she is slowly finding her way through it all. As she finally speaks about her truth in front of everyone, she is relieved because the burden on her shoulders is finally falling off.

After the act, the teacher in charge of the drama does tell them off for the way everyone went off script (as seen through the many episodes where everyone speaks of their inner emotions), and leaves with a warning. Meanwhile, Harun is stunned but accepts her opening up about her truth with open arms.

What Arrangements Does Nesrin Make Before Her Departure?

The mess caused by the viral video soon comes to an end as Zehra finally gets Harun to clear the misunderstanding created by it. She then goes on to quit her job at the hospital and continue with her plans to move to France. Meanwhile, seeing her mother’s house being emptied to pay the debt owed by her sister, Nesrin decides to take over the responsibility of taking care of their mother. She sets her sister free while ensuring that her mother is being taken care of.

Later, she understands that Zehra doesn’t have a place ready to move into and tells her to stay in her house. She will continue to keep the house, and Zehra can stay there for a longer time. In return, she is asked to take care of her cat Diego.

What Does Zehra Write in Her Encyclopedia?

At the end, we see Zehra reading out her assignment in class on her very own Istanbul Encyclopedia. She mentions the people and the places that have made a change in her life, starting with Nesrin’s apartment. Talking about the extraordinary in every ordinary place in the city, she speaks about the wonderful side of these places. Later, she hands over the book she has written to Nesrin as a goodbye gift, giving her not just an encyclopedia but also memories that are precious to them both.

Who Appears at the Airport?

After bidding her goodbye to Nesrin, Zehra is surprised to find her mother in Istanbul and tells her that Nesrin has left. A silence takes over, and we see old feelings bubbling under this calm that may represent a missed opportunity or a story that is yet to continue.
