Inventing Anna: What is Anna Sorokin aka Anna Delvey and Others Doing Now?

Inventing Anna on Netflix shows us how brilliantly deep a scam game can go. After the success of The Tinder Swindler, this is Netflix’s next take on a real-life scam story. Created and produced by Shonda Rhimes, the limited series is based on the New York article by Jessica Pressler How Anna (Sorokin) Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People. Julia Garner plays the titular role in this series, where journalist and editor, Pressler also serves as the show’s producer.

The cast also features Anna Chlumsky as Vivian, Katie Lowes as Rachel, Laverne Cox as Kacy Duke, Alexis Floyd as Neff, Arian Moayed as Todd, Anders Holm as Jack, Anna Deavere Smith as Maud, Jeff Perry as Lou, Terry Kinney as Barry, Jennifer Esposito as Talia Mallay and Anthony Edwards, most of whom are based on real-life characters too!

Inventing Anna recounts the story of Anna Sorkin aka Anna Delvey, a Russian-born German fraudster, who pretended to be a wealthy German heiress from 2013 to 2017 and defrauded banks, hotels, and wealthy acquaintances. Anna was convicted of multiple counts of attempted grand larceny, larceny in the second degree, and theft of services back in 2019. The outlook of the story is based on the journalistic point of view of Pressler. But, the question is where are these people now?

Inventing Anna: Where are the characters now?

Anna Delvey aka Anna Sorokin (played by Julia Garner)

The SoHo Scammer, as Delvey is popularly known, did serve 8 counts of allegations against her name instead of 10. She was released from prison on February 11, 2022, on parole due to good behaviour. However, a month later, she was taken into custody by ICE for overstaying her visa. Delvey has actively been promoting the release of her series on Instagram and Twitter. Check out her official Instagram account, here.

Jessica Pressler (played by Anna Chlumsky)

In the series, Pressler’s character is shown as Vivian Kent of the Manhattan Magazine. The entire story of the series is not only based on Pressler’s investigative journalism but, the incidents also prompted Pressler to work as a correspondent on Vanity Fair and write her book titled- Bad Influence. However, this isn’t the first time Jessica Pressler’s article has been adapted in the film industry. The 2019 film Hustlers is also based on the journalist’s article called The Hustlers at Scores.

Neffatari Davis (played by Alexis Floyd)

Referred to as mostly Neff throughout the entire series, the character is based on a real-life person named Neffatari Davis. In the series, we see Neff being possibly the only one who truly cares about Anna. As for in real-life, Davis has quit her job and moved to Los Angeles to try her acting career in the industry. She was involved as a consultant in Inventing Anna and, is actually Anna Delvey’s real-life best friend. Check out their Instagram post below.

Kacy Duke (played by Laverne Cox)

The real-life person of the same name served as Anna’s fitness trainer. Netflix reveals that due to her experience with Anna, Duke has cut off her painful and, notoriously demanding clients. However, she continues with her career as a coach/trainer and, is still a believer in the Universe’s power. Duke has also served as a fitness coach to some very popular celebrities including Julianne Moore, Denzel Washington, Bebe Rexha and, Bruce Willis.

Todd Spodek (played by Arian Moayed)

Succession’s Moayed played Todd, who was actually Anna’s lawyer. Following his fame from the Delvey case, Spodek has gone on to become the defender of choice for prominent fraudsters. However, suffering a health crisis in 2019, the lawyer has adjusted to taking vacations and spending more time with his family.

Rachel Williams (played by Katie Lowes)

Lowes’ character retained the real-life character’s name just like Anna. The real Rachel Williams wrote a memoir on her experience with Delvey titled My Friend Anna, which was voted as one of Time Magazine’s 100 Best Books of the year in 2019.
