Aarya Season 3 Review

The third season of Aarya starts in rather a dramatic manner using an inverted plot style. We get to what the series’ climax is going to be in the opening scene and thereafter the plot works itself towards it. This was an interesting point for the show to begin and did get us hooked on the first go.

In the present season, we have Aarya continuing to run her family’s opium business. She is a good, working mother who supports and protects her family as she thrives in her business areas. However, this season particularly focuses on Aarya’s ambition to move ahead in the trade she is a part of, being the number one producer as well as the transporter of opium. The ambitious step she wants to take, of course, comes with its own set of obstacles. Some of the obstacles that we see coming our heroine’s way this season are the fruit of her haunting past.

We have Sooraj hunting Aarya down for the death of his wife and is ready to go to any extent to get hold of our titular character, even if it means killing some innocent side characters in the process. A new lady-don has emerged this season named Nalini, who is not only trying to get Aarya out of the way but, also playing a game bigger than most. And, surely, the Russians are returning to the scene this time too regarding their big drug consignments and so is ACP Khan to put Aarya behind bars.

Aarya Season 3 is as ambitious as the titular character herself. The only difference is that Sushmita Sen can take those ambitions and desires to a place that makes her look like a knight in shining armour. As for the plot, it cannot hold itself with so much happening. The mixed opinion on the series is that it should have stopped with the second season. Season three just plays the devil’s advocate to that opinion only to push it to become a popular one this time.

There are so many subplots that help the story progress but, also some irrelevant turning points that only clutter the scene. The writing isn’t as crisp as it used to be, except for the moments where we get to hear Aru’s word poetry (those are still charming as they are spine-chilling). The actors have continued to perform their best to safeguard this season and make it as interesting and watchable as it gets. Even the addition of new cast members has only enhanced the acting quality of the show, which remains the best thing about it.

Aarya Season 3: Final Verdict

Overall, the four episodes that have been released have too much going on in them making it difficult for the viewers to follow or root for one to two characters consistently. There are abrupt endings to certain character developments and plot points which do not look like a helping hand. Nonetheless, the brilliant acting truly makes up for most dull moments and illogical turns and lets you focus on the main storyline.

You can watch the first part of the third season of the series now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
