Hot Frosty Review
You know what, I will admit it today. I am a sucker for stupid Christmas movies. They are forgettable, silly but full of sugary hope and wonder. Hot Frosty, much like all the other silly Christmas movies that come out every year during this time, is a whimsical watch for everyone who wants to forget the heartbreak and chaos of the world for an hour and a half. I mean, the premise is of a sad woman who puts a magical scarf around a snowman that turns him into a hunky and innocent man – what else can you expect but harmless fun?
In this universe, Mean Girls (Lacey Chabert) meets Schitt’s Creek (Dustin Milligan) meets The Office (Craig Robinson) and Brooklyn 99 (Craig Robinson, Joe Lo Truglio). The film is melodramatic and insane (again, snowman turns into hunky human) and makes for the perfect holiday watch. There’s something sweet and childish about the premise that reels you in and you ride the wave of insanity with a smile on your face. The moment Milligan turned into a human, I couldn’t help but laugh. He’s the perfect blend of naive silliness that can melt anyone’s cold, dead heart.

Lacey Chabert plays Kathy, who is a little melancholic and withdrawn at first. Chabert is great in her role as well and is a character who doesn’t overdo the quirks too much. She’s fun and relatable, as is her generally withdrawn mood. I like how she is left shocked when her doctor friend talks about magic and whatnot, it makes us root for her all the much more. However, I personally feel Milligan’s Jack is the character who steals the show. He’s so genuine with his feelings that it’s hard not to love him!
Craig Robinson and Joe Lo Truglio play two small-town cops who take the safety and security of their town too seriously. Of course, like almost all movies of the genre, they are goofy, bumbling fools who make themselves look quite bad every time they open their mouths. Both the actors play that role well, as evidenced by the fact that they have played similar roles in the past. I especially love Joe Lo Truglio, he’s a bit more of a serious fool than the clown-y one; it probably made me laugh more.

The storyline, thoroughly simple, is effective in its delivery. There’s nothing much to expect here and that’s why it probably makes you invested. The simplicity of the characters adds to your interest in everything that is happening and it’s easy to lose yourself in the film quite easily. Whether it be Jack’s confusion with his human life or Kathy’s monotonous existence finding the meaning of love once again. The silly cat-and-mouse chase between Jack and the police is also entertaining, however, it’s the emotional moments that truly make for a magical experience.
Final Thoughts

It’s Dustin Milligan and Lacey Chabert’s sweet and relatable chemistry that keeps Hot Frosty hot. The film isn’t going to win awards, but it might win your heart. There are many moments when the film just doesn’t make sense or follow logic in any way, but it manages to keep us smiling throughout and that’s the magic of Christmas, I guess.
