Hell’s Paradise Season 2 Episode 1 Recap
The episode begins with Jikka emerging as the sole survivor of the island, somehow making it back alive. When questioned by the shogun’s men, he offers only evasive answers, raising more suspicion than clarity. Despite knowing how lethal the island is, the shogun orders the Yamada clan to dispatch another group to observe the situation. This time, the mission will be led by the famed Yamada Asaemon Shugen, and instead of condemned criminals, elite ninjas from Iwagakure are chosen for the expedition.
The episode then shifts focus to the Tensen, who are shown indulging in their usual rituals. Meanwhile, the narrative splits between the main groups, with Sagiri remaining separated from Gabimaru and deciding to move beyond the Tensen’s castle gates in hopes of regrouping. While Gabimaru’s party heads directly toward the castle.

Before they can advance further, Gabimaru encounters the Aza brothers, and the meeting quickly turns violent. What follows is a brutal hand-to-hand battle that highlights just how dangerous these opponents are. Gabimaru struggles more than expected, largely due to the gaps in his memory, which leave him physically and mentally incomplete in combat.
Hell’s Paradise Season 2 Episode 2 Review

The fight continues between Gabimaru and Chobei, and this time, Gabimaru is in trouble because Chobei has unlocked a completely new demonic form. He is very far away from being a normal human, and we see it even in his behavioural changes. Somehow, his mind gets clouded, and he becomes a relentless killing machine who only wants to execute Gabimaru or anyone who comes his way. In such a scenario, Gabimaru struggles because he doesn’t remember his Tao anymore.
But that is when, due to external influences, the fight stops, and it results in some interesting developments. Thankfully, the two groups finally meet, and they discuss their current situation. Sagiri decides that, as Gabimaru is very badly injured, they must first tend to his wounds. Interestingly, Sagiri manages to realise that the new Gabimaru is acting weirdly when he claims that he doesn’t care if he lives or dies. She knows the previous Gabimaru wouldn’t have said that because he wanted to go back to his wife.

Sagiri decides to approach him herself without fearing him. This was a very important moment because while talking to him, Sagiri also finally realises what Gabimaru is to her. She also manages to recover him through Tao and body conduct. But on the other hand, Chobei’s situation is very different. He departs from his brother and goes directly to the layer of monsters, yet he is not the victim anymore.
Gabimaru finally recovers some of his memories and is a lot more in control of himself than before. They finally start planning their next steps. Here, he claims that he is determined not only to escape from the island but also escape it in a way that he will not be persecuted anymore. This segment was very nice because he goes into detail about his wife, and it shows just how much he loves her.

Verdict
This episode was really good because it had a bit of everything. It came with her relentless action, a lot of mystery, and even a bit of romance. The ending was also very unexpected because in the next episode, we will see something very different.
