Head Over Heels Episode 10 Recap
The episode opens with Seong-ah confronting Bong-su, and the viewers get to know that this was all part of Bong-su’s plan that he had cooked up with Yeom Hwa. Now in Gyeon-woo’s body, Bong-su seems content, but his mask slips off more often than not. With the truth now out, Seong-ah has a lot on her mind while Yeom Hwa gets Flower Master drunk and steals his amulets. Bong-su confronts her as she is rifling through Seong-ah’s things looking for the silver ring, and then she steps out for the night, leaving him to wonder about her plans.
General Dongcheon, however, has her eyes on her.
As Yeom Hwa makes a rather evil purchase, Bong-su explains his allegiance to General Dongcheon and tells her to do something about Yeom Hwa. The General immediately understands that she wants to smash something that Bong-su had haunted in order to bring in the Grim Reaper in order to force Gyeon-woo to the other side. With no other option, General Dongcheon tells Seong-ah to protect Bong-su if she ever wants to see Gyeon-woo. She further tells her that Bong-su wants to live as a human beside her; it’s a cry for love, and encourages her to see his side as well.

Seong-ah takes the advice seriously and plays nice with Bong-su that night, but it’s a work in progress. The next morning at school, he incessantly annoys her, but she keeps her opinions to herself to be kind to her, much to her annoyance. Even Ji-ho tries to force him out, but somehow gets moved by his heartwarming story. Bong-su later helps Beom with the bully, and all the boys share a warm moment together.
The next morning, Seong-ah finds herself heartbroken when Bong-su gets everyone’s attention and admiration, and she realises that they prefer him to Gyeon-woo. Later, she feels overwhelmed with the feeling of no one knowing that Gyeon-woo isn’t technically Gyeon-woo and laments over what will happen if he truly ceases to exist. Flower Master, however, reminds her about the Hour of the Ox and uses that time to talk to Gyeon-woo.
His idea works, and she is able to speak to Gyeon-woo that night. She instructs him to talk to the soldiers in Bong-su’s memories and befriend them to know more about Bong-su and console his soul. Inside Bong-su’s memories, Gyeon-woo tries to do as he’s told, but the soldiers, of course, attack him out of fear. Meanwhile, Yeom Hwa continues on her evil path, trying to stir the heart to get to her goal.

The next morning, the school is in a stir after Gyeon-woo confesses in front of the class that he wants to kiss Seong-ah. Ji-ho is unhappy about the changes that he’s making and follows him that evening, catching him red-handed with Yeom Hwa. In that meeting, she tells him that Gyeon-woo can surface during the Hour of the Ox and reminds him that he’s the evil entity and not the human being that he’s pretending to be. Bong-su leaves in a huff while Yeom Hwa implores Flower Master to make an amulet for her.
That night, Bong-su decides to test Yeom Hwa’s theory and pretend to be Gyeon-woo during the Hour of the Ox. Her affection immediately leaves him sad, more so when she spills her plans as well. Heartbroken, he reveals himself to him, leaving her confused. The true heartbreak, however, comes when the next morning, Bong-su finally finds the student soldier’s grave that he has been searching for. Yoon-bo was his friend, and he gave him a silver ring to give to his mother as he was dying. However, he died before he could keep his promise and that guilt has eaten him alive (or, dead) till then.

He buries the ring and then tells her that he won’t be leaving Gyeon-woo’s body. Elsewhere, Yeom Hwa tries to get her requested amulet from Flower Master, but it turns out to be an ambush, and she is captured by General Dongcheon and Great Aunt to cut off her connection with her patron deity. She begs them to reconsider, but it’s too late – the deed is done. Yeom Hwa, however, isn’t in the mood for stopping and spotting the woman with the ghost baby; she takes the doll from her.
For some reason, Ji-ho meets Yeom Hwa to find a solution for getting Gyeon-woo back, and he eats up her lies, digging up the silver ring to give to Yeom Hwa. As Bong-su and Seong-ah have a terrifying fight, Yeom Hwa destroys the ring, summoning the Grim Reaper. Bong-su immediately falls ill, and the others rush to distract the Grim Reaper and protect him before it’s too late. Bong-su, however, is in a mood of his own and summons the Grim Reaper himself to get rid of Yeom Hwa!
In a shocking twist, Yeom Hwa suddenly realises that the scarf that General Dongcheon had given her worked as an amulet to protect her and that Dongcheon was her human amulet. Knowing that Yeom Hwa wouldn’t stop till the end, General Dongcheon decides to give up her life for her, leaving the family devastated.
Head Over Heels Episode 10 Review

What a heartbreaking turn of events that I truly did not see coming. I thought Yeom Hwa dying was the twist, but truly, this was fantastic. It tugs on your heartstrings while giving both Yeom Hwa and Seong-ah a purpose for the two remaining episodes. I think the series has done a fantastic job of turning itself from a fluffy, happy show to a dark, gritty thriller with human stories etched into it. All in all, another really good episode for this drama!
