Gangubai Kathiawadi: Alia Bhatt Starrer Gets a New Release Date

Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi is one of the much-awaited films starring the actor. Her first project with Sanjay Leela Bhansali is based on a true story. The trailer was released almost a year ago. But the release date wasn’t fixed due to the pandemic, lockdown, restrictions and shutdown of cinema halls for months.

Well, Alia fans can now rejoice as the new release date SLB’s movie is now out. As shared by Pen Movies, Gangubai Kathiawadi is now scheduled to release in theatres on February 25, 2022. It is the first film starring the actor that will make its way to the cinemas.

Pen Movies shared on Instagram, “Witness her reign in cinemas near you on 25th February 2022. 👑#GangubaiKathiawadi”.

Bhansali’s film also stars Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, Seema Bhargava and many others. The film is based on a chapter from Hussain Zaidi’s popular book ‘Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Actor Ajay Devgn will have a special role in the film. The story is about Ganga Harjivandas of Kathiawad who had to become Gangubai due to circumstances in Kamathipura, a known red light area in Mumbai. The story is set in the 1960s.

Meanwhile, recently there were reports that Alia had an emotional breakdown while shooting the film. As reported by Bollywood Hungama, a source revealed, “There are two sequences in the film where she has to pull out all stops, on a par with Shabana Azmi’s breakdown at the end of Shyam Benegal’s Ankur. Alia performed them without the help of glycerine. The tears just flowed nonstop even after the shots were over.”
