FRIENDS Reunion and HBO Max Set to Debut together – and We Can’t Keep Calm!

Every Friends fan’s dreams are finally set to come true, with the six original cast members making a comeback for a one-off special… that is reportedly going to cost $3 million for each main cast member.

Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, and Matthew Perry will all return to the hit series one last time which will debut with HBO Max in May. The cast is reportedly going to earn more than double their former per-episode fee for the reunion and will be paid somewhere between $2.5 million and $3 million for the special. That is more than double of what the actors were paid per episode in 2004 for the 10th and last season.

HBO Max

FRIENDS is basically HBO Max, and WarnerMedia’s baby at the moment after the company paid more than $425 million in 2019 to secure the exclusive rights of the series. Netflix had the rights to the series previously, but it left the streaming service on January 1. Thus, HBO Max will come out with the entire collection of Friends, along with the special, on its launch although there isn’t any specific date yet.

The FRIENDS special will also provide HBO Max with something the service is in dire need of… something to draw subscribers with. Previously, Disney’s streaming service, Disney Plus, was able to catch the streamers’ eyes with weekly episodes of The Mandalorian. People were obsessed with Baby Yoda, and who could blame them, honestly?

HBO Max is the priciest service to enter the streaming war with $14.99 a month. Competitors like Disney Plus, Apple TV Plus and Hulu range between $5 and $12 a month. Moreover, Netflix’s basic plan is $8.99. Thus, in order to justify the hefty price tag, Max is coming out with a host of impressive movies and TV shows which includes The Matrix, The Big Bang Theory, and the majority of the DC movies, along with the Friends special.

HBO MAX LAUNCH

Moreover, Existing HBO subscribers on the AT&T network and HBO Now direct billing subscribers will get HBO Max for free. Along with this, customers who subscribe to AT&T’s premium video, mobile and broadband packages will be offered bundles at launch with HBO Max, at no additional cost.

Social media was abuzz after news of the Friends special episode broke and it was trending on Twitter with the FriendsReunion hashtag.
