When is EXO DO’s The Moon Releasing? All About the Korean Space Survival Film

Selenophiles will never get tired of looking at The Moon (더 문), but as much as the distant aesthetic magnificence of the satellite pulls us all towards its light, its actual sublime existence is way too powerful, rendering it unfair to reduce its grandeur to a simple thing of beauty. Many American movies, like The Martian, Interstellar, Gravity and more, have previously explored space survival escapades that not only give us enough reasons to appreciate the alluring vision, many many kilometres away from our blue-green abode, but also bow down to the outer-space excellence.

As expressions for such awe-inspiring sights get lost in translation, we also come to realise that it isn’t just all about the terrific view out there. A sense of existentialism inevitably pervades through stories related to the space. The upcoming South Korean adventure will again dig into a similar concept, starring some familiar faces for K-drama enthusiasts. The wait is almost over, but we need to be prepared well in advance for what’s coming ahead.

The Moon Movie Cast

On many occasions, a movie’s cast becomes synonymous with its title and ultimately even ends up preceding people’s knowledge of the title. The same can be said to have been achieved by the forthcoming Korean film as well. With the renowned K-pop idol, EXO DO (aka Do Kyungsoo or Doh Kyung-soo) leading the lot (was also nominated in the 2023 Blue Dragon Series Awards under the Best Actor category for Bad Prosecutor) the movie’s steering wheel seems to be in firm hands of experience. Playing the role of a space crew member, D.O. will be accompanied by Sol Kyung-gu, Kim Hee-ae, Park Byung-eun, Choi Byung-mo, and Hong Seung-hee on this adventure.

Directed and written by Kim Yong-hwa, the film has been produced by Seo Ho-jin, under the banner of CJ ENM STUDIOS and Vlad Studio.

The Moon Plot/Storyline

The science fiction plot of the movie is set in a near future when Korea’s first manned lunar exploration mission leads to a disastrous end, following an onboard explosion. A few years later, another spaceflight is launched, but despite its successful take off, the ferocious solar wind causes it to malfunction, leaving Kyung-soo’s character, Hwang Sun-woo, stranded alone in space. With one catastrophe only leading up to the other, the Naro Space Center is left with their final light of hope in the face of former managing director Kim Jae-guk to bring back their crew member safe and sound.

The Moon Release Date and Trailer

With a runtime of around 2 hours, the film is set to release theatrically on August 2, 2023. Indian cinemas haven’t yet listed the movie under the upcoming release schedule calendar, so it’s likely that some audiences around the world will have to wait for its OTT premiere later on.
