Erotica is a celebrated genre all across art representation mediums, be it literature or cinema. But, often enough it gets misinterpreted, lost in translation and, willingly cheapened at the expense of the delight of the makers or the viewers. Erotic movies and shows have their own separate fanbase and are excessively preferred over deep, slow-burning dramas. Netflix, of course, is the king that brings us all the erotica we can dream of and, also cringe about.
Today, we are taking a look at the erotic movies and shows on Netflix in 2022 that stirred a storm that hasn’t quietened yet. Scroll through this list which might have your most loved and hated films and series put together!
Erotic Movies and Shows of Netflix in 2022 That Got Everyone Talking
365 Days This Day & The Next 365 Days
Nothing we say is going to be enough when it comes to the amount of erotic content the 365 Days movie franchise offers us. It is harsh and sensual but, cheap and directionless. Confused? Well, wait till you watch the films. The makers released two films in a single year that only skyrocketed the search value of the film not the quality and that is all there is left to say.
The erotic thriller film franchise is based on the trilogy by Blanka Lipińska and features Anna-Maria Sieklucka and Michele Morrone in the leading roles of Laura and Massimo, respectively.
Elite
Netflix’s Spanish drama really had the potential to be something different and iconic with the way it started and the fanfare it received. But, after the sixth season of the show that came out in November 2022 the deciding vote that all this show has is sex and no substance was solidly established. Carlos Montero and Darío Madrona, the series revolves around the students of an elite school and the relationships they form that make or break them.
Lady Chatterley’s Lover
D. H. Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover, like his other books, created a storm with its themes and representations but, what raged the controversy surrounding the book the most was the eroticism and sensuality present in the novel. Netflix 2022 romantic drama that serves as the adaptation of the same did not shy away when it came to taking the eroticism off the paper and putting it on screen, where we see Emma Corrin and Jack O’Connell playing the lead roles.
Telling the tale of a forbidden romance between an upper-class woman and a working-class man, the film is a good enough adaptation to divulge that celebrates intimacy without making it look cheap.
Somebody
Kdramas are usually uplifting examples of what romance should be like. They make us swoon and dream of that touch of hands or the accidental falling in the arms. However, the 2022 crime drama Somebody really did take it up a notch and gave us many bold, intimate scenes that we couldn’t quite take our eyes off. Starring Kim Young-kwang, Kang Hae-rim, Kim Yong-ji and Kim Soo-yeon, the series is about a software developer and her friends, who get caught in the dungeons of murder and crime following the dating app built by her.
No Limit
When you have ‘destructive love’ written in the film’s synopsis, it is usually a lost fight to expect anything but, lots of angry sex from a Netflix release. The David M. Rosenthal film revolves around a talented young woman falling in love with her free-diving instructor. However, it is the unpredictable ending that makes the film truly stand out.
Dark Desire Season 2
Did we really need another season of this Mexican thriller that doubles up as a really hardcore erotica? The simple answer is yes but, the complicated reply is we have a second season anyway but, it is the final one. An Argos Comunicación production, the series stars Maite Perroni, Erik Hayser, Alejandro Speitzer, María Fernanda Yepes, Regina Pavón and Jorge Poza and, some really steamy segments to cherish or cringe at (depending on your mood, obviously!).
Fishbowl Wives
Netflix’s 2022 Valentine’s Day release is nothing but soft-porn dangling on the chains of infidelity. The series is about six unhappy married women who end up crossing the line into the world of infidelity and betrayal. The steamy Japanese series is based on a Manga book of the same name.
Through My Window
A Spanish romantic drama that really tears it all off on screen. Well, good for fans of erotica but, not really the ones looking for a good story because it completely fails the novel that is based on, written by Ariana Godoy. The film features Julio Peña, Clara Galle and Pilar Castro and is about a young woman who has a crush on her neighbour and tries to grab his attention.
Diary of a Gigolo
Talking about something weird, sexy and addictive? Diary of a Gigolo is something that is sure to make you feel that way. A Spanish miniseries produced by Underground, the series stars Jesús Castro, Victoria White and Fabiola Campomanes. At the centre of the series is a male escort whose life begins to unravel when he finds himself getting involved in the personal affairs of his client.
Love and Leashes
Like the title suggests, this Kdrama was all about love and the leashes that come with it- physical or emotional, if you know what we mean. With a cute but, sensual love story at its core, this Netflix series is based on the webtoon Moral Sense by Gyeoul and stars Seohyun and Lee Jun-young. The show tells the story of Ji-hoo (the perfect man with a desire for BDSM) and Ji-woo (a hardworking PR member who finds out about Ji-hoo’s dark desire).
Glitter
Also known as Brokat, Glitter is a Polish drama that really shines on its erotic content. The story is about an independent woman who lives by her own rules and breaks the social taboos and constructs laid on women in Poland in the 70s. The series stars Magdalena Poplawska, Lukasz Simlat and Folco Marchi and, is created by Aleksandra Chmielewska and Maciej Kubicki.
