SAMMIT IS THE IDEAL FAMILY MAN. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN HIS WIFE, INSPECTOR IRA’S INVESTIGATION INTO A SERIES OF MURDERS LEADS HER TO HIM? HAS SAMMIT BEEN LIVING THE PERFECT LIFE OR THE PERFECT LIE?
– This Article Contains Spoilers for Duranga and Flower of Evil –
Duranga is Flower of Evil’s official remake, so much so that they totally recreated the series in Hindi, right now to its smallest detail but without the emotional depth of the original show. The series, in order to fit more than 16 hours of content into a ~4.5 hours runtime, cut down several things and ended the series on a rather disappointing cliffhanger. Maybe they’re going to make another ending different from the Korean drama series, who knows, but with the track record, it seems improbable.
However, if you’re confused about Duranga’s ending, we have it all broken down for you:
Duranga Ending Explained

Duranga ends with the real Sammit Patel waking up from a coma. But who is Sammit Patel? What is his relationship with Gulshan Devaiah’s Abhishek Banne?
Banne was serial killer Bala Banne’s son, who was the murderer accused in their village head’s horrifying death. It comes to light in the last episode that the crime which Abhishek has been running away from was never committed by him but rather by his sister Prachi. She murdered the village head when he tried to assault her sexually, and Abhishek took on her sister’s burden so as not to ruin her life.
But how is Sammit concerned with all of this? It was said that Bala had an accomplice, and everyone thought that it was his son Abhishek. However, no one knew that the accomplice was the Patels’ son Sammit, who was psychopathic tendencies from when he was young. Although Duranga ending does not specify the why and how of this companionship, it is hinted that they worked together.
But how did Abhishek come to become Sammit? After the latter fell into a coma, the Patels made a deal with Abhishek to live his life as their son while the real son was in a coma. The outcome was twofold – the Patel household would forever keep their son’s secret safe, and Abhishek would not be held accountable for “murdering” the village head.
Abhishek got roped into this scheme after Sammit ran into him while he was running away from being persecuted for the above-mentioned murder. What happened afterwards is not delved into in this season of Duranga, but Flower of Evil’s plot might just hint at where the story is going.
Flower of Evil Ending
In Flower of Evil, Do Hyun-soo (Lee Joon-gi) is run over by Baek Hee-sung (Kim Ji-hoon) while the former is running away from being persecuted for the village head’s murder. The latter, instead of helping the injured Hyun-soo, tries to bury him in his backyard when his mother finds him and, realizing that her son is a serial killer, stabs him, landing him in a coma.
After Hyun-soo comes to, the Baek family turns him into their son and hides their comatose son away for years in order to maintain the perfect family image. At the end of Flower of Evil, Hyun-soo and his wife Cha Ji-won (Moon Chae-won) live happily ever after, after killing Baek Hee-sung in a shootout.
Duranga vs Flower of Evil
The main differences between the Hindi and original Korean drama are the emotional moments and better worldbuilding for such a complicated story. There are several facets to the storyline which, without the proper emotional and character backing, wouldn’t make much sense and hold on to the audience’s attention. Flower of Evil was as emotional as it was thrilling – it talked about abuse and trauma with so much love and empathy yet introduced some of the most heinous crimes, keeping you at the edge of your seat. The audience is left to feel a ton of different emotions while sitting at the edge of their seats.
Duranga, in spite of going down the same road, is unable to capture these essences – the story is rushed, and the thrilling moments are lost because of it. On top of that, important side characters don’t get enough recognition, including the nuanced emotional moments. In the original show, Do Hyun-soo’s sister Hae-su had a significant role, so much so that when the revelation of what she did when she was young and the guilt that she carries around with her due to it proves to be such a poignant part of the storyline. You feel for Hae-su’s desperation and in spite of getting away from being convicted, she is in a prison of her own.
Even Hyun-soo and Ji-won’s emotional moments and why she stuck by him till the end, in spite of all the red flags popping up everywhere, fail to make an impact in Duranga. Devaiah and Dhami are great in their roles, but the story doesn’t capture these points because it tries to fit too much into too little.
Thus, Duranga, in spite of almost being a scene-for-scene copy of Flower of Evil, doesn’t live up to the original. If you’re truly interested in finding out the nuances of the show, it’s best to check out Flower of Evil. The K-drama is streaming on Netflix.
Duranga is streaming on Zee5.

Yep Flower of Evil is amazing.. My first korean series to watch…2nd Goblin & 3rd was Mr. Queen & it never stopped after these 3…I rated them as 10/10 in IMDB rating too.. I have seen the trailer of Duranga, it’s completely word to word copied from Flower of Evil. Even the dialogues.. And Duranga in no way delivers anything which the original version did or the way it touched The hearts of the viewers…The Indian industry need to be creative & innovative & write their own series instead of copying from other countries..
The most confusing thing is that even after copying the show down to the last dialogue, it fails to deliver the tension of the original!
