After pausing her medical resident career to become a homemaker, Cha Jeong-suk decides to start her training all over again when her husband, a chief surgeon and professor at the university hospital, cheats on her. In this episode, we see In-ho trying to win back the favour of his wife Jeong-suk, while her mother goes through a medical emergency.

Doctor Cha Episode 13 Recap

This episode starts with us seeing In-ho absolutely ruining everything Jeong-suk said by effectively passing out. Initially, she thinks it’s a joke, and he hasn’t actually fainted, but soon things start getting very serious because he is bleeding from his nose and isn’t waking up. I-rang, Jung-min and her mother-in-law all come in to see what actually happened to him. Being a doctor, Jeong-suk started to take a full look at In-ho and soon realised that nothing actually happened to him, and he was just pretending to pass out so she would drop this conversation.

Now that Jeong-suk has made her decision about this, she is not going to back out of it. Working in the hospital has given her enough confidence to know that she can do things on her own. Meanwhile, Seung-hi is still reeling from the fact that her boyfriend is ready to throw her under the bus to save his son because of a mistake he made. Fortunately, Jung-min didn’t need to be bailed out because Roy Kim solved this whole issue with the patient by explaining everything that went wrong.

Seung-hi isn’t happy with the whole situation, but she is willing to overlook it, hoping In-ho will come to his senses and realise that he can emulate similar behaviour with Eun-seo. She is not too mad about that. However, she is mad that he would still not leave his wife, even though she is the one extending the proposal to end their relationship. She does something even scarier. He can do whatever he wants to get his wife back, but Seung-hi will be right there; she is not going anywhere.

Somehow, she knows that Jeong-suk will never go back to In-ho, who has proven himself to be the worst ever after he starts to leave small gifts outside her dorm room. She explains that there is no way she will be coming back to him, no matter what he does. In the meantime, she has been absolutely slaying her job, everyone is extremely happy, and she is able to take care of all her patients. Roy Kim is extremely happy with her work and has been doing some soul-searching himself, trying to find his birth parents.

Not all parents are perfectly okay, though. Jeong-suk’s mother has been feeling the effects of ageing. Her shoulder has been hurting terribly, and every doctor has been telling her different things. After her daughter realises that doctors have been absolutely no use here, Jeong-suk drags her to Gusan University Hospital. After they go there, In-ho runs in to ensure his mother-in-law is comfortable there. He pulls all the strings to ensure she gets the best treatment possible.

It has become so bad that even his mother has been giving him tips to make sure that the divorce doesn’t happen. But she is torn. She just realised that Seung-hi might come into a 100 billion Won windfall from her father’s death. But losing her daughter-in-law over that much money didn’t seem worth it to her. After thinking it through, In-ho’s mother suggests he take the whole family, including Jeong-suk’s mother, to dinner to cheer her up.

At the table, all of them are sitting down to eat, and In-ho is the one grilling the meat, but he cannot for the life of him continue doing it well because he burns all the pieces. Jung-min takes over, and instead, he continues the conversation with his mother-in-law. Jeong-suk explained to him before that even though the divorce is on pause right now. It doesn’t mean she isn’t coming back with the papers soon.

He is very annoyed that this conversation is still going on. Knowing In-ho, he will continue being the most aloof person and won’t let Jeong-suk go for the life of him. He has gotten used to her in the house, and now living without her seems hard. This is still a common thing that happens with couples breaking up, but what In-ho does next is nothing short of strange. At the dinner, he pulls out two cash guns and presses the triggers, sending some very expensive notes all over the table.

Everyone sitting is making sure that it doesn’t get into any of the food. Taking this as a misguided but sweet gesture, Jeong-suk’s mother is touched. She sees In-ho as a changed man, and things are finally going well, but things have been getting worse because when the dinner ends, In-ho’s mother sees the man she has been dating, and he has been sitting with another man. Soon, there is a commotion, and we find out that the woman next to him knows all about In-ho’s family, including the fact he has been cheating on his wife and has a child out of wedlock.

The episode ends with Jeong-suk’s mother hearing everything. She wasn’t supposed to know anything about this, but thanks to the amount of drama in the hospital, this still happened. Seung-hi, who is also Jeong-suk’s mother’s doctor, comes in with Eun-seo to the same restaurant at the same time, making the accusations ring even more true now.

Doctor Cha Episode 13 Review

Finally, there is some confrontation, and there is some exploration outside of this weird love triangle. However, that is not to say that this episode was a banger, and there was a lot of plot progression. We are still losing the essence of the show, even though some of the elements shown in the series are very accurate for people currently undergoing a separation.

All these episodes have been doing is confirming our hate for In-ho, his mother and Seung-hi (somewhat, she is also a victim of bad circumstances). However, it was interesting to see what comes next now that Jeong-suk’s mother knows about this affair and everything. Maybe she can push Jeong-suk to actually divorce her cheating husband and leave him because of the things he has done.
