One of the most popular anime of our time, Demon Slayer, is back on our screens with the Swordsmith Village Arc. Demon Slayer Kimetsu No Yaiba Season 3 Episode 10 Review- Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji

I’m not the first, nor will I be the last person to complain about female characterisation in shonen anime. How some of the most popular shonen anime of all time treat their female characters (*cough* Sakura *cough*) is an absolute travesty, and I am bewildered that shows like these retain any female viewership at all. However, you will never catch me saying the same for Demon Slayer because of episodes like this one. I am happy to tell you that Mitsuri Kanroji is the exact kind of representation missing in shows like this, and I’m happy to talk about why.

There have been female badasses in Shonen anime before, quite a few of them. However, most of them fall into a certain archetype. You know the one I’m thinking of, the characters with deep voices and muscular bodies. Now, I have nothing against these characters, and I adore my fair share of them, but one can’t help but want a change after all this time. Mitsuri Kanroji is that change. She is exceptionally strong even for a Hashira but has sacrificed none of her actual personality to do so. She is strong while still being true to her nature and wanting the same things she did previously.

Her origin story told in Demon Slayer Swordsmith Village Episode 10 was also a breath of fresh air, as for once, it didn’t involve someone deciding to become strong because demons murdered everyone they ever knew. Hers is a much tamer reason than most others, but that doesn’t mean that it makes any less sense than the others. Her reason for wanting to become a Hashira is just as valid as the other Hashiras, especially since she seems to be this good at her job.

Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 10 was truly the Mitsuri Kanroji episode, and your appreciation of it will depend on your feelings about the character. I love her and would watch a spinoff series revolving solely around her, so I loved this episode. It was beautifully animated and showcased her vast strength very well. She might even be too strong because the attacks she was deflecting would have killed a slightly lesser character. Her battle sequence was also beautifully animated, which I’ve always believed helps the popularity of a character.

We are approaching the end of this season, with only a single episode separating us and a wait of several more years for the next season. This season has been nothing but consistently high quality so far, and I expect nothing less from the finale as well. We can expect Mitsuri’s iron will, Tanjiro’s determination, and Tokito’s skill to come into play one last time before we head off into the sunset again. Speaking of Tanjiro, he had a callback to one of his most iconic yet idiotic moments in the entire series. However, it was done right this time, which I would like to appreciate the series for.

Verdict

Demon Slayer Season 3 Episode 10 was a wonderful journey into a world not as touched by the evils of the world the show portrays. We also saw a cute girl kick some major ass. That’s always fun.
