Deaimon Episode 11 Overview

deaimon episode 11-kanoko and valentines day

Deaimon is a slice of life, gourmet, and drama anime focusing on a Japanese sweets shop. A guy returns home after 10 years to take care of the shop and his father’s proclaimed declining health. He is surprised to find a young girl working there, who is claimed by everyone to be the heir to the shop. The anime shows their daily life interactions and various journeys they have taken to end up here at the traditional sweets store in Kyoto. Deaimon is based on a manga written by Rin Asano.

The anime adaptation is developed by Studio Encourage Films, an outfit that has produced many other anime such as Etotama, Hitorijime My Hero, and Isekai Cheat Magician. The show is being produced with Fumitoshi Oizaki (A Centaur’s Life, Etotama) serving as director, Reiko Yoshida (Blue Period, A Silent Voice) supervising the scripts, and Sakae Shibuya (Girl Friend Note, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) designing the characters and overseeing the animation.

Deaimon Episode 11 Review- Is It Destiny?

deaimon episode 11- nagomu in school

As the winter continued, we were greeted with the arrival of the New Year in the previous episode. With Itsuka maturing and wishing for her Ryokushou family to be well, to Koume’s story, which might seem just to be a kid’s struggle, the previous episode had a rollercoaster of emotions. Nagomu’s unwavering selfless nature and his tendency to help others in need were conveyed beautifully through the nameless man with whom Nagomu quickly bonded. Even Nagomu’s parents’ true nature is finally clear- and they are just as pure-hearted as their child!

We have been hinted at multiple times throughout the series of Deaimon about Itsuka’s father, even though usually he is shown as just a silhouette. There is another recurring character in the flashbacks, and that is Nagomu’s senpai from his school days. These two characters seemed to have many things in common- from being aware of Ryokushou to loving to play the guitar, to moving away to Tokyo, to common character design and hair colour. Are these two the same people?

Deaimon Episode 11 is set around and on Valentine’s day. With Nagomu being sick, we get a nice montage of his memories of his beloved senpai. This is one of the many examples of the clever writing Deaimon has where memories and longings associated with them are beautifully connected with the present timeline without feeling forced at all. Accompanied with smooth music and even smoother animations, these memories helped us clear a big mystery!

We get a few scenes where Mitsuru and Kanoko are taking care of Nagomu in Deaimon Episode 11. These small moments of interaction clearly show the difference in their levels of maturity and age. While on one hand, Mitsuru is fangirling over Nagomu, imagining various scenarios where she is with him, doing various fun activities. On the other hand, Kanoko is worried about Nagomu, reminiscing the time when he had fallen sick, which had led up to a comedic event. Their viewpoints are completely different, proving Mitsuru is just a teenager and that Kanoko is a good match for Nagomu.

Filled with bonding moments between our two main leads, Itsuka and Nagomu, this episode of Deaimon was a great way to build up the anticipation for the next (final) episode. This show began with Nagomu being jokingly suggested to be a father figure for Itsuka, and after many emotions, events, and interactions with the multi-generational cast, he has managed to establish himself as such. With the gradual acceptance of harsh truths of life by both the main characters, it will be fun to see how it all ends!
