Cadaver Ending Explained: Is Vetri Behind the Murders? How Did Angel Die?

Cadaver is a Tamil crime thriller recently released on Disney+ Hotstar. It is directed by Anoop S Panicker and the screenplay is written by Abhilash Pillai. Produced by Amala Paul, who also stars in a lead role in the film. The other cast includes Riythvika, Harish Uthaman, Athulya Ravi, Adith Arun and Ramdoss in the supporting roles.

The film follows a high-profile murder which baffles the cops when a prison inmate claims responsibility and promises more deaths. Will police surgeon Bhadra crack this mystery? The film has a runtime of about 2 hours.

Cadaver Ending Explained

After the priest was attacked, the same men later tried to steal Angel’s body from the grave. But Bhadra and the police were already present there and caught them in the act. It made suspicions grow around Angel and her body was dug out for postmortem. What surprised everyone was that even after years, her body hadn’t decomposed.

Bhadra later defines this condition, which is called adipocere, where the skin becomes like wax, thus preventing or delaying the decay. From examining her body, she realised that the body never had a postmortem before, which would mean that the report about her death is false. She further cuts through the body and it turns out that it is missing the heart.

It confirms their suspicion of Dr Salim Rahman and can deduce it to organ trafficking but to confirm they go to the hospital. There Bhadra sees the name of a Doctor called S Abraham Abel, it makes her remember what Vetri said in church – following the footsteps of Cain. They think that he might be connected to Angel’s case and thus makes him the second target.

Bhadra and Vishal reach Dr Abel’s home and try to get some information about illegal organ trading, that could be happening at the hospital and with a slight nudge, he spills the bean about it, due to his nervousness. But even with the police being there, the killer shoots him dead and runs away. We get to see that the shooter is Kaali Bhaiyya, who works at the mortuary.

Officer then abducts the local criminal Mani, to get more information about Vetri and Angel, where he reveals that they tried to snatch the gold chain from Angel’s neck while she was on the bike with Vetri. Due to the sudden pull, she ends up falling hard on her pregnant belly and in rage, Vetri throws one of the snatchers in front of an oncoming truck.

That’s why Vetri is serving jail time and couldn’t be there with Angel in the hospital. Whereas, the operating doctor Salim doesn’t treat her for her injuries and straightaway takes the baby out and sends it to medical waste. While carrying the body of the baby, the nurse realises that it’s moving and instead of going back to the doctor she tries to save the baby and take it home.

She does that because she knows that something wrong is happening in the operation theatre (where Dr Salim took out Angel’s heart instead of saving her), thus, he would have killed the baby as well. The nurse turned out to be Priya, who is Kaali’s daughter. They take the baby girl to the priest and decide to keep her.

On the other hand, officer Vishal gets transferred as he had exposed the organ trading happening at the hospital and Dr Salim’s father got him expelled from the case. He even confessed to selling her heart for 2 crore rupees. But Vishal still warns him that he could be the next target as Vetri would never kill a person carrying his Angel’s heart.

And as expected the father gets abducted by Kaali and is tied to a chair in a room. But that’s when the real twist is revealed that Kaali is just the front face, the real mastermind has been Bhadra, all along. We get to know that she had met Angel on a bus, where they bonded with each other but Angel left her heart locket on the bus.

Carrying it with her always, Bhadra comes across Angel’s postmortem report while teaching a class and is devastated to know about her death. Kaali also tells her about the ordeals through which Angel went and she meets her daughter. Bhadra later urges Priya to collect evidence against Dr Salim so they could expose him but it leads to her death.

Priya gets caught by Salim and with his father and Abel, they throw acids at her which deforms her face and body to death ultimately. Bhadra blames herself for Priya’s death but soon takes resolution to bring all the perpetrators down. That’s how she devises the plan to avenge everyone by taking the help of Kaali and the priest, which puts Vetri in the centre of it.

Bhadra also adopts Angel’s daughter and names her Diya. In the end, she advises Vetri to look forward to coming out of jail and living a good life. But he says he has nothing to look forward to, that’s when she gives him the heart locket, which contains his wedding picture and Diya’s picture on the other side. He then realises that she is his daughter and hugs her.
