The gang head back to their old house in Bulgasal episode 15 where Do-yun and Si-ho discuss the other two’s plans while Hwal and Sang-un discuss the latter’s flashbacks and why she chose to stand by Hwal in spite of knowing everything.

Hwal brings Sang-un to the place where Bulgasals were rumoured to live 600 years ago. He tells her then that she cannot stop him anymore – he must kill Eul-tae and must die with him. It’s what everyone wanted and it’s what might just put this reign of terror to an end. Sang-un is shocked that he’d still take this decision after everything that they have gone through.

She tells him why she likes him – she feels a strong pull towards him that she cannot quite define. According to Sang-un, there might have been a connection between them 600 years ago and she cannot let him die before she gets the answer to her question. Unfortunately, Hwal isn’t ready to listen to any of her reasonings.

Either way, after a brush with the past and a bit of father-son discussion which ends in Hwal asking Do-yun to stay with him and finish school, Hwal realises that he has a nice family and everything that he could ask for and maybe feels a little bad that he might just be losing it all in some time. Meanwhile, Detective Ham gives Ho-yeon a shirt and asks him to get rid of Eul-tae after fearing that the mayor might be dead.

Later on, Sang-un again tries to convince an unrelenting Hwal that he should get rid of Eul-tae and then become human so that he can stay with his family and take care of them. However, Hwal isn’t ready to listen to any of Sang-un’s reasonings. Sang-un, though, has another trick up her sleeve – she threatens to kill herself if he doesn’t stop trying to kill himself with Eul-tae. Hwal tells her that he will not let her die – she is all he has thought about for 600 years and losing her would be like losing all of him.

Si-ho loses her mind when she realises that the two were secretly plotting who will die – she refuses to lose any more family members. That’s when Ho-yeol comes in and tells them that Detective Ham told him Eul-tae’s whereabouts. Hwal immediately tells him that it’s a trap but before that conversation can end, they are called to have dinner.

There, Si-ho announces that she will take Hye-seok’s place and continue her work with Hwal while Do-yun tells Hwal that he will have to teach him how to drive and take care of him. Hwal promises that they will find a way to live and then starts practising how to eat since they will have many such meals together from now on.

As Sang-un, Hwal and Ho-yeol go off to fight, they promise to all come back to Si-ho and Do-yun. Ho-yeol even promises to buy hair dye. Meanwhile, Sang-un comes up with the idea that they should switch being Bulgasals when each gets bored, that way, they can protect their loved ones forever. Hwal just asks for both of them to stay alive.

As the three of them reach the well, Eul-tae is already waiting for them inside. Hwal asks the other two to stay put since the well room is quite small and Eul-tae can easily kill them there. Sang-un asks him to be careful and to come back unharmed. Inside, Eul-tae taunts Hwal and tells him he should’ve killed his family. However, instead of fighting, Hwal apologises to Eul-tae and tells him that he knows that he did everything for him and he shouldn’t have resented him for so long.

Unfortunately for Eul-tae, he still plans on locking him up in the well. A fight ensues which consists of a lot of stabbing and red eyes. Of course, Eul-tae overpowers Hwal and leaves him bleeding on the floor and then follows Sang-un. Ho-yeol effectively shoots him a couple of times, the last time in the heart. Ho-yeol goes totally haywire after this and tries to kill Hwal but Sang-un stops him.

But before that conversation could even end, they realise that Eul-tae is up and running again. Sang-un tries to poison him but Ho-yeol gets stabbed to protect her. Eul-tae drops Hwal in the well and a badly injured Ho-yeol asks him why he left him and his sister to die all those years ago. Either way, ironically, Ho-yeol gives him his blood so that he can save Sang-un.

Hwal calling him father in Ho-yeol’s dying moments is heartbreaking and I will never get over it.

Hwal is back, stronger than ever, and just as Eul-tae is about to get Sang-un, he gets a nasty wake-up call.

1000 years ago, Ho-yeol, Eul-tae and Si-ho (or their past versions) stab a very angry Bulgasal Hwal and Sang-un (who is also a Bulgasal and possibly Hwal’s partner) stabs herself as well. Hwal promises to exact revenge on everyone who betrayed him, especially Sang-un since she is his.

Final Thoughts: Bulgasal episode 15

Although Bulgasal episode 15’s first half was quite lame and had nothing much of note, the second half is quite interesting. I really want to know what the heck happened 1000 years ago – the sneak peek in this episode did nothing to satiate my interest and left me with more questions than anything else. Why did Hwal go all nuclear and try to murder everyone? Will is everyone stabbing themselves 1000 years ago?

Apart from that, I would say that this episode was quite slow. The action scene was pretty mellow, although the little minute that Ho-yeol and Hwal spent together was quite sad and sweet. Apart from that, the fight didn’t have much to look forward to. Hwal and Sang-un’s discussions were emotionally charged but didn’t leave as much impact on some of the other episodes. Let’s hope the finale tomorrow is better than this!

Bulgasal Episode 15 is quite a damper of an episode with not a lot of nail-biting moments.

  1. Almost the end of the series and very lame and boring. Was hoping for more action and what happened 1000 years ago. Verh disappointed. Hopefully tomorrow’s episode will be a good one, otherwise a waste of time waiting and watching this series.

  2. This drama was nice in the beginning but towards the end it’s lame.

Still blurry with what happened 1000 years ago

Good it’s coming to an end.
