Blood Free Episode 1 Preview: The upcoming 10-episode series follows Yoon Ja-yu (Han Hyo-joo), the CEO of BF, the person to introduce a new era of artificially cultured meat. She meets Woo Chae-woon (Ju Ji-hoon), a suspicious officer and her personal bodyguard. Soon, they get wrapped up in mysterious deaths and unexplainable situations and now, they must find a way to get out of it. 

Blood Free (지배종) is a 10-episode series that will begin airing on April 10th on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar. The thriller drama stars Han Hyo-joo, Ju Ji-hoon, Lee Hee-joon, Lee Mu-saeng, Park Ji-yeon and others. 

The anticipated drama is directed by Park Chul-hwan. He is known for directing Seo Kang-hoon and Kim A-joong starrer thriller drama Grid. He teamed up with his screenwriter from Grid, Lee Soo-yeon. She is a celebrated screenwriter with dramas like Stranger, Stranger 2 and Life

Blood Free Plot 

Set in 2025, BF creates cell-stemmed, blood-free meat that becomes wildly successful. With such a unique invention, Yoon Ja-yu becomes the face of the company, which also leads her to be the bearer of praise as well as hate. But soon, she starts receiving confusing threats from people she knows but can’t pinpoint who is behind all the problems she is in. 

The drama stars Hyo-joo as Yoon Ja-yu, the CEO of a highly controversial and successful alternative meat company BF. Known as the CEO of the world’s best biotechnological company, Yoon Ja-yu is used to the high praise as well as the death threats that come with the success of her patent – a new-age artificially cultured meat. She is cold, calculative and calm in the face of a storm. 

After being put in many dangerous situations, she is given a personal bodyguard – a trained officer named Woo Chae-woon. A man with a mysterious past, he requests to protect Ja-yu, making people around her feel suspicious of his intent. The two are wary of each other but situations bring them together and soon, they get attached. However, they come across mysterious deaths and a web of secrets within the company and key stakeholders that force the two to detangle the lies to reach the truth.

The first episode will show the main characters – Ja-yu and Chae-woon. They will not have any interaction till the end of the episode, therefore we will get to know the individual lives of our characters. With Ja-yu being an owner of a successful company, she will be shown as a calm and calculative leader who does not flinch at the insults hurled at her by protestors outside her building. 

We will also be introduced to the side characters of the drama – Lee Hee-joon as Jae Seon-u, the prime minister of South Korea, Lee Moo-saeng as On-san, a physiologist and a founding member of BF and Park Ji-yeon as Jung Hae-dun, a lawyer and head of planning at BF. Other characters are Kim Sang-ho as Kim Sin-gu, the bioengineer and the mind who developed the core technology for the artificially engineered meat and Jeon Seok-ho as Seo Hui, an IT expert at BF.  

Lastly, we will get to see Ju Ji-hoon as Woo Chae-woon, an officer who gives his services to Ja-yu but we still do not know if they had a prior connection or he has an ulterior motive. 

Who is the real villain? Will Ja-yu be able to take on all the protests and hate for her product? What is the real reason behind the hate for BF and their invention? 

Blood Free Release Date and Time 

Blood Free, starring Han Hyo-joo and Ju Ji-hoon will be premiering on April 10th, 2024 at 5 PM KST (1:30 PM IST). The episodes will be dropping every Wednesday.

Where to Watch Blood Free 

The thriller K-drama will be streaming worldwide on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar. 

Blood Free Cast 

The drama stars Han Hyo-joo and Ju Ji-hoon as leads. The drama is also starring Lee Hee-joon, Lee Moo-saeng, Park Ji-yeon, Kim Sang-ho and Jeon Seok-ho. Han Hyo-joo is a celebrated actor who has acted in dramas like Heaven and Earth, Iljimae, Brilliant Legacy, W, Happiness and Moving. Her most recent drama was Moving where she played a person with supernatural power and has a son with similar powers. Her role as a mother earned her love from many fans. 

Ju Ji-hoon is a seasoned actor, best known for his role as a dreamy prince in Princess Hours. Since then he has acted in Lucifer, Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds, Last 49 Days, The Spy Gone North, Hyena, Item, Kingdome (Seasons 1 and 2) and Jirisan. While Jirisan did not do well with the audience, he has already booked himself as a lead in many dramas for the coming year.
