NBA star player’s docuseries Bill Russell Legend is coming to the screen with two episodes that will look at the Celtics champion’s achievements and goals. It will feature Russell’s impressive visuals from his matches and life. The show will also discuss racism and how the civil rights star Russell fought against it. Russell has won 11 championships in around 12 seasons, and he is the first-ever player who has been the NBA MVP five times in a row. He also won the gold in the Melbourne Olympics in 1956.

The docuseries is directed by Sam Pollard, known for Lowndes County and the Road to Black Power. Pollard was driven to show Russell’s sports power backed by his off-court activism. In fact, Russell was invited by Martin Luther King for the march after witnessing how the basketball player raised his voice for black rights.

The official Netflix description of the docuseries reads, “The story of Russell’s domination in basketball is intertwined with his impact off the court, and the two-part documentary film Bill Russell: Legend tells the full story of his life, highlighting both his long career with the Boston Celtics and the activism that ultimately changed the sport forever.”

The viewers will witness the activist’s courageous participation in various historical events, like setting up a basketball clinic in Mississippi after Medgar Evers’ murder. It will include many archives and interviews of Russell to explore his bravery back in time. The docuseries aspires to show how the NBA player is more than just a basketball star.

Bill Russell Legend Cast and Crew

As the docuseries include archive videos, the cast that will be seen are Bill Russell, Barack Obama, Wilt Chamberlain, Kenny Smith, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Seth Curry, Jalen Rose, Julius Erving, Chris Paul, Isiah Thomas, Jerry West, Red Auerbach and Bill Bradley. John Sands arranged the music of the docuseries, and Mirage Zamprioli edited the English dialogue.

The executive producers are Lawrence Gordon, Ross Greenburg, Evan Jaenichen and Mike Richardson. The docuseries’ production house is High Five Productions and is distributed by Netflix. The production assistant is David Buhrmaster.
