As Asur Season 2 Becomes a Big Hit, Show Makes it to Top 60 IMDb List

Premiering on the first day of June, Asur Season 2 had the audience shook by its digital warfare approach, and like before, the Jio Cinema crime thriller series made for a trailblazing sequel to an already praiseworthy premier season. Starring Arshad Warsi, Barun Sobti, Anupriya Goenka, Ridhi Dogra, Amey Wagh, Vishesh Bansal, Abhishek Chauhan, Meiyang Chang and others, the show is directed by Oni Sen, with Gaurav Shukla and Abhijeet Khuman penning down its story, and Abhijeet Garg and Chirag Salian pitching in the screenplay.

Now streaming for free, the Jio Cinema series follows a team of forensic experts who chase down a serial killer believing himself to be the reincarnated self of Asura Kali. In the cat-and-mouse chase, Sobti assumed the role of a forensic expert who switches to being a teacher, and then again goes back to his CBI roots under the wing of his former mentor, Dhananjay played by Arshad Warsi.

Asur 2: The Rise of the Dark Side had a total of 8 episodes and again intermeshed the complications of the geopolitical reality with mythological legends in the Indian context. Serving a balanced mix of sundry themes like mythology, revenge, drama, suspense and the workings of human psyche, the show managed to keep its audience at the edge of their seats, thus, receiving a majorly positive response.

Things escalated further ahead in the bright zone for the thriller series recently as the leading star of the series, Barun Sobti, took to his Instagram to address the rising success of the project. Taking to his social media handle “barunsobti_says”, he wrote how he already had a strong feeling that Asur would do well when the first season was ready to come out. He even believed that it was “going to be one of the best shows our country has ever produced”.

And when, Season 2 came along, he again held on to the same optimism and belief, but even more so appreciated the dark turns incorporated within, and just knew that Season 2 had the strength to do better than the first one. His earnest wishes and aspirations came true when his title was listed as the only Indian show among the Top 60 TV series being watched around the world. He shared the screenshot of the IMDb listing in the same Instagram post, feeling proud of what the Asur team’s hard work had accomplished, which again couldn’t have earned the end it did without the audience rooting hard for him and his fellow cast mates.

Overflowing with gratitude, he thanked the viewers who tuned in to the show. Here’s what his post said.
