Apartment 404 Episode 6 Recap

The year is 1984. BLACKPINK’s Jennie, Yoo Jae-suk, Oh Na-ra, Yang Se-chan, Cha Tae-hyun and Lee Jung-ha dress appropriately for the year and find themselves in a ‘music cafe’. It was a time when listening to music at home was difficult so music cafes allowed friends and couples to enjoy their music through a DJ.
They enjoy various dishes and nostalgic tunes of the 80s when they are scared by a loud banging of the door. Three thugs with pipes and wooden planks in their hands, walk around breaking things and asking the rest of the patrons if they have seen ‘a man with moussed hair’. Confused at the description, the cast immediately denies seeing a man of that sort when their table moves as that man comes out and pushes the thugs to run away. The cast looks shocked at the scene unfolding, almost like a retro action film.
They watch a news piece where they find out that in the 80s, Korea had an unprecedented economic boom, causing the three lows – low dollar rates, low-interest rates and low oil prices. But the excess economic prosperity also birthed a new issue – the organised crime unit. With adult entertainment places opening up rapidly, there were no stops to how people chose to spend their money – leading to many crimes taking place.
A few minutes later, a woman comes crying and shows the picture of the man. When asked about him, she says that he is someone ‘precious’ to her. The real tears and tremors in her voice move them and she walks away – giving them their first clue about the case today.

She asks them to come to her apartment unit 407 and the members set off on a new adventure. As they walk to the apartment, the man from earlier is seen running with a bag of cash while the thugs catch on to him. He tries to pick his spilled money but they instead engage him in a true action sequence. He says one thing that shocks the cast – ‘love is not a sin’. Soon, he takes some of his cash and runs away from there.
With that clue in mind, they go on to the woman’s apartment and search for clues. They soon find out that she is a lover of romantic comedies, music and dance as there are records for Dirty Dancing, ABBA’s Dancing Queen, etc. The books in her room also have some elements of dance in it. Besides, the apartment is littered with different flowers, especially violets.
They gather in the living room and find newspapers from the 80s and the highlighted articles are all about adultery. With all these clues in their mind, they deduce that the man and woman are not married but rather having an affair. The woman is married and her bedroom looks like one of a newly-weds.
They gather for their first game where Yoo Jae-suk’s actions seem suspicious to the rest as he moves to the apartment after finishing his round – not waiting for his team. The rest of the group decides to keep him out and win the game – leaving Jae-suk alone. They win special cuts of beef for lunch as well as a clue while Jae-suk makes his lunch alone, in the other apartment. He does not receive a proper clue but a prompt to check out the other apartment. As he looks around, he finds out that the case has to do with dancing. Satisfied with his deduction, he is thrown out of the winning team’s apartment.

As they watch the tape that contains the clue, Jennie deduces the relationship between the woman and man in the case – he is the gigolo who seduced the married woman to extort money from her. With clues like violets sounding similar to gigolo in Korean as well as the cut of the beef they received for lunch. But there is another clue in the room that they are not able to deduce – the number ‘127’.
Everyone begins suspecting Yoo Jae-suk and Lee Jung-ha as the latter goes to his apartment quite often during lunch. They remove Jung-ha from their team as he seems too suspicious but the former tries to make his case. Jae-suk also enters the apartment and as they argue, the woman walks in. She reveals that the man is her boyfriend from the cabaret and the reason why she wants to find him quickly is because he has her money and something precious to her.
The team participate in yet another game where Jennie, Tae-hyun and Se-chan’s team wins. Both the teams get a clue – which are two tapes with two different clues. As they watch the same video, they find out that the case is about a married couple running a drug peddling ring from their apartment. Based on a true story, the 1984 case talks about the use of drugs increasing, leading to many ‘normal’ people entering the seedy underbelly to make and sell various drugs.
The woman, along with her husband, makes drugs from an apartment in the building and sells them to others. The teams have to find the suitcase full of drugs, hidden by the gigolo, and throw it in the incinerator by 3 PM. However, if the husband (who is one of the cast members), finds it before them and puts it in a bin to smuggle it, that member wins.

With all the cast members pointing fingers at either Cha Tae-hyun or Lee Jung-ha, they set off to find the bag. Se-chan and Jennie keep thinking how is it possible for the winning and losing team to get the same clues? That’s when Tae-hyun reveals that he hid a key from the bag by habit. They go to the apartment and find it to be a proper drug factory.
The clues point to the husband and the location of the bag – the rooftop. Jung-ha sets off while Na-ra and Tae-hyun chase him. Jae-suk figures it out later on as well and runs behind them. Jennie and Se-chan stay behind to solve the clue of the husband. As Jung-ha gets chased by Tae-hyun and Na-ra, Jennie and Se-chan find the person they are looking for, which is …… Cha Tae-hyun!
He had many personal missions as the husband – to touch the woman’s hand, get the members to say that they like something and keep the couple necklace on him at all times. The last one almost got caught by Jennie but he kept it wrapped around his ankle.
Na-ra steals the briefcase and runs to the winning area. Tae-hyun tries to take it from him but she throws it in the incinerator in time – making the residents the winner.

Apartment 404 Episode 6 Review
The episode felt less interesting as the case did not grab our attention as much. The pacing of the episode felt off and there was no revelation as such regarding the characters of the case or the case itself. It felt rushed and safe as compared to their previous episodes.
The cast members were fun as always and Jennie continues to prove her status as a detective. With her quick-thinking skills and deduction techniques, she can solve clues and notice her surroundings quite well. Jae-suk was a complete riot as he was separated from the rest of the team. From his one-liners to jealous rants, he made us roll on the floor, laughing.
Jung-ha seemed sharper in this episode as he kept his head in the game and deduced clues quite quickly. Na-ra and Se-chan did not stand out much in the episode but they still had a lot of amazing insights to give as they broke down the case.
