Aoashi Review – To Overcome The Opponents

Ao Ashi Episode 3 begins with the declaration of the result for the 11 players who will make the final round of the selections. The play we had in the previous episode between the players was intense, accompanied by Aoi’s acceptance of other players’ capabilities and his growth to pass the ball to others. The managers were debating as to who those 11 players would be, noting some strengths, weaknesses, and capacities. This portrays their leadership qualities and a true mark of being the mentors of soccer’s future in Japan. As we know, these are sections for players who eventually will play on a large scale later on in their careers, even representing their country.

As expected, our main character makes the final selection round. The 11 players seem to be in a jolly mood- until their opponents are declared. It is the youth team. Just by the character design, they look way more capable. All in their tops forms, physically intimidating and look mentally sharp as ever. Merely their aura makes everyone-on and off the field- realise how unbalanced the match is going to be. Aoashi Episode 3 shows the high levels of stress sportsmen face when their opponent’s skills exceed their own by a huge margin.

With us holding our breaths, we proceed to watch the game start. Aoashi has cleverly introduced the opponents in the youth club. Without giving too much about 11 new players, they just focus on 1 named Akutsu. He is a highly skilled player with a little too much ego. But Aoi and his teammates are not letting him bring down the morale!

Ao Ashi has a great animation flow. With our first live match, which we get to watch in its entirety, this was an amazing start. With the quick moments and flow of the ball coherently displayed, this is a great soccer anime. Actual formations and strategies are shown, and any football fan is bound to be engrossed as if a live match is occurring. The sentiments of the onlookers are not overdramatised. With our players voicing their desperation for this chance and the need to win, will Aoi be able to keep his cool? Or, just like in the first episode, he will get enraged at the provocation?

Filled with tense moments, Aoashi Episode 3 had no comedic scenes, unlike its previous episodes. This shows that the show script is very well-written. The moments feel intense and emotional when they need to be without unnecessarily making some side joke or a cut scene. The animated faces of the players when they are stressed, when they see a chance, when that chance is lost, or when they know they are above league than their opponents all are portrayed very well. With the episode ending in suspense, we cannot wait to see the remainder of the match!
