And Just Like That: Carrie Bradshaw’s 5 Iconic Sex and the City Comebacks in the HBO Reboot

The Sex and the City reboot series on HBO- And Just Like That is closing in soon. With one episode left, the show has definitely revived some of our fond memories associated with the iconic show from the 90s created by Darren Star. However, the series has also been critically received by fans, who think that as much as the nostalgia trip has been a sweet ride with all of our favourite characters, the reboot just messed up character arcs and story angles that were best left undisturbed. Given there have already been two films to show the aftermath of the end of SATC, the reboot does seem unnecessary.

Nonetheless, it has been an absolute pleasure to witness the fan favourite characters age and grow on us and, see some new faces add variation to the show’s narrative. The original show is based on the bestselling book by Candance Bushnell of the same name. And both the original and the reboot features Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis as Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte York Goldenblatt, respectively. Along with them, we have Mario Cantone, David Eigenberg, Sara Ramirez, Karen Pittman, Evan Handler, Sarita Choudhury, Nicole Ari Parker, Cathy Anga and Jon Tenney.

And Just Like That even though has taken a long leap in terms of storytelling, it has given us some moments from the past that we hold dear. Especially, in regards to Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw. So let us have a look at the top five things that made a comeback in the reboot!

Top 5 And Just Like That x Sex and the City Moments

Carrie’s Love For Shoes

Well, one did not exactly have to wait for the show to be out to guess that Carrie’s “lovers” are going to play an omnipresent part in the reboot. There have been many instances in the original show when shoes have acted as a symbolic gesture to lift up Carrie’s mood. However, even though that theme exactly did not follow in the reboot, we have the episode “tragically hip” in And Just Like That were shoes, or to be specific- heels, work as a motivator for Carrie to recover after her surgery.

Carrie’s Apartment

Well, one cannot deny all the heartbreaks and shenanigans that Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment have witnessed. So much so, that the apartment was recreated into an Airbnb for stay before And Just Like That aired. However, at the beginning of the series, we did not expect to see Carrie’s apartment at all, given her marriage to Big meant the couple lived in their penthouse apartment with the iconic wardrobe that Big built for Carrie. But, after the unfortunate demise of Big in episode one, we see Carrie move back into her old New York apartment as she could not bear living in the same space Big died.

Carrie’s Signature Necklace

Bradshaw’s most prized possession has to be her goldplated necklace that spells ‘Carrie’ in italics. We have seen her wear it during Sex and the City and, have seen how the necklace was symbolic of making our protagonist feel like herself. In And Just Like That, we did not see the necklace from the start but, it make an appearance at the end of the sixth episode titled ‘Diwali’.

Carrie’s Versace Gown

The mille-feuille Versace dress owned by Carrie had fans then and, have fans now too. We first saw her wearing it in the finale when she was in Paris and waiting for Alexandr Petrovsky to take her out to dinner and, eventually falling asleep in it when he was late. In the eighth episode titled “Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered”, we see Carrie call the dress her ‘pride and joy’ as she shows it to Seema.

We find out that Carrie’s actually worn it twice until then- one is in Paris and, the second time was just for fun as she sat by the window and ate Jiffy Pop. At the end of the episode, we see her wearing the iconic dress for the third time sitting by the window of her old apartment, eating (probably, Jiffy Pop). Sarah Jessica Parker even posted about it, have a look below!

Carrie Writes a Book

Sex and the City fans were almost worried when they saw everything but, the former sex columnist not writing in And Just Like That. Well, the doubts were kept in the backseat when in episode seven- ‘Sex and the Window’, we see Carrie finally writing a book and, even finishing it to hold it in front of her publisher. The book is called ‘Loved & Lost’ and, is Bradshaw’s latest memoir which we assume not only covers the loss of Big in her life but, also the absence of Samantha. Well, wouldn’t it be love for the fans to get a reading session?

Well, And Just Like That has given its own set of nods to various things but, surely these were the most memorable ones. You can tune in to watch all nine episodes before the finale on HBO Max. And Just Like That Episode 10 will release this thursday- 3rd Feb 2022 at 3 am ET. The runtime for the episodes are around 40 minutes and can range up to an hour.
