Akshay Kumar’s Bell Bottom Release Going Digital; An Update On Irrfan Khan’s The Song of Scorpions

Due to the second wave of COVID-19 in India, everything has come to a standstill again. Theatres are not functioning, and several films starring Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, Ranveer Singh and others had to push their release date. The latest update is about Akshay’s Bell Bottom release, which was supposed to hit the screens in May.

The latest report suggests that Akshay Kumar’s Bell Bottom release might be on digital platforms. The makers want to seal the deal with Rs 150 crore and have approached Amazon Prime and Disney+ Hotstar. Reportedly, Amazon Prime made an offer of Rs 125 crore, but the makers want it somewhere around Rs 150 crore. They are currently having final discussions with D+H regarding the Bell Bottom release.

As reported by Pinkvilla, a source close to Akshay Kumar’s Bell Bottom said, “The makers were all set for a theatrical release on May 28, but in current times, it’s unlikely for any film to arrive in the cinema halls at least till the month of July. The cases are on the rise every day and are showing no signs of slowing down. After multiple rounds of internal discussions, the Bell Bottom team has initiated a conversation with the digital giant Disney+ Hotstar for a digital premiere.”

Another update is about late actor Irrfan Khan’s film The Song of Scorpions, directed by Anup Singh. Today, it will be a year since the actor passed away, and his death is a big loss to the film industry. Anup and Irrfan had joined hands again after their critically acclaimed film Qissa: The Tale of a Lonely Ghost (2013).

Anup Singh spoke wholeheartedly about Irrfan Khan’s talent and how his loss feels personal to all in an interaction with the same portal. The director said, “With Irrfan, we, the audience, become co-artists, seeking with him the possibilities of what it means to be a human being. He opens us to ourselves. He enlarges us. There are very few other actors who have the artistry to achieve this or even the courage to attempt it.”

When asked about the release of The Song of Scorpions, Anup said that the film is ready to release. However, it is getting delayed due to the pandemic. The film was screened in 2017 at the 70th Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland.

Talking about Akshay Kumar’s Bell Bottom, Ranjit Tiwari helmed it. It also stars Vaani Kapoor and Huma Qureshi. The Bell Bottom release will be the superstar’s second stint on OTT after Laxmii (2020), if the news is true. His other film that is yet to release for the past year is Sooryavanshi. Directed by Rohit Shetty, the cop drama also stars Katrina Kaif. It was supposed to hit the silver screens on April 30. But the pandemic affected its release yet again, and the makers have not yet shared any new release date.

Another big film that has made its way to the digital platform is Salman Khan’s Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai. Starring Disha Patani, Randeep Hooda and Jackie Shroff, the film is slated to release during Eid on Zee5.
