Ahsoka Review: The series stars Rosario Dawson in the titular role, along with Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skill, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hate, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth, and Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrown, among others. Dave Filoni wrote the story, which is based on George Lucas’ Star Wars.
The review is based on the first two episodes, directed by Dave Filoni and Steph Green. The runtime of the episodes is approximately 45–55 minutes.
Ahsoka Episodes 1 and 2 Review Contains No Spoiler
The story is set after the fall of the Galactic Empire and the rise of the New Republic. Imperial Grand Admiral Thrawn, who was assumed dead, has returned. Ahsoka Tano has to get to him before another war begins in the galaxy.
Since Rosario Dawson appeared in The Mandalorian Season 2 as Ahsoka Tano, Star Wars fans have been eager to know what she’s up to. People have only seen her animated avatar in the Star Wars series, and things were left to assumptions after The Clone Wars. Well, with the new series, we hope to get answers.
Ahsoka Episode 1
The first episode starts with an introduction to the threats. We don’t meet Thrawn, but his people are trying to regain their power and spread fear. Ahsoka is on a mission to find his whereabouts and stop him from causing havoc again. But the enemy has the upper hand this time. After the fight sequence in the first 15 minutes of episode 1, the pace is slow. Dave Filoni has taken a good 50+ minutes to introduce the live-action versions of several characters. It’s a decent start that requires patience to get hold of things.
Ahsoka Episode 2
Thankfully, our warrior gets a helping hand from someone she trusts. We see that completely pan out in the second episode. The second episode begins sluggishly, and the narrative only gets gripping in the last 20 minutes. The combat sequence is well-directed and comes to a point where the show struggles for some soul and spark.
The series is strictly for those who have seen previous shows featuring Ahsoka. One must know what happened in the past to understand why the conversation about Ezra matters and why Thrawn is such a big concern. Rosario Dawson has always played the character with conviction, and she seems to be at ease donning the avatar. It would be interesting to see how the story further shapes the actor’s performance and character development.
Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren is quite a refreshing personality in the series. Whether it’s her look or her approach to situations, she gets your attention. Sabine’s transformation was another highlight of episode 2. The rest of the cast has played their parts well so far.
Ahsoka Review (Episodes 1 and 2): Final Thoughts
Overall, the Star Wars series has its moments in the first two episodes where it intrigues you. One can only hope that the screenplay gets better, with bigger and better incidents and threats to make Ahsoka a memorable show.
