Dear X Ending Explained
In Dear X, we are immediately introduced to the protagonist of the story, Baek Ah-jin, who has seen a meteoric rise in her life after manipulating everyone around her and destroying the lives of those who wish to do her harm. The first few episodes discuss her painful backstory of being abused by her parents, seeing her mother murdered at her father’s hands, and eventually meeting her stepbrother Jun-seo, who eventually becomes a close confidant.
Her abusive past has turned her into a cold and calculating woman who doesn’t think before swiftly delivering justice against everyone and anyone who dato res cross her. We also learn that she’s extremely ambitious, wanting to never feel powerless after everything that she has gone through in her past.

However, despite wanting to become a lawyer first, her father eventually finds her and steals all of her money, resulting in her abandoning those dreams and finding herself entering the entertainment industry by joining an agency and debuting as an actress. There, too, she continues to manipulate her rivals to clear a path to the top for herself.
How does Ah-jin’s fall start?
After becoming a well-known face, she starts to get close to Heo In-gang, another stepping stone to her rise in success. However, this time, she butts heads with his then-girlfriend, who can see through her manipulation clearly. She gets very close to his grandmother to make him fall in love with her and cement her place in the industry. But, in a tragic twist that she couldn’t have predicted, In-gang and his grandmother both die successively, resulting in the blame falling on Ah-jin.

Now drowning in scandal, her agency fires her and blacklists her, resulting in her safety net disappearing in one swift motion. Now cracking under public scrutiny, she desperately tries to get her power back and decides to do whatever it takes to get it.

What are her plans to get back to the top?

Salvation comes to Ah-jin through Moon Do-hyuk, a chaebol heir who has been keeping a close eye on Ah-jin. He asks her to marry him, promising to wipe the slate clean and relaunch her career. However, she is acutely aware that something is wrong with Do-hyuk, although she can’t put her finger on it. Do-hyuk, meanwhile, is ruthless and orders Jun-seo and Jae-oh to be killed to secure Ah-jin for himself.
However, her seemingly happy life still has many obstacles on its path, especially when those wronged by her come out of the shadows to attack her.
What happens in the end?

Ah-jin slowly realises that something is very wrong with her husband when Jae-oh tells her that the attack by Shim was probably orchestrated by Do-hyuk. He did something similar to his ex-wife, who is now in a psychiatric hospital, and it’s a tactic that he tends to use – he isolates his partner and makes them unable to live without him, manipulating them until they can’t take it anymore.
Jae-oh and Jun-seo try to save Ah-jin from this horrible fate, but she realises what divorcing her husband would entail and refuses to leave and start from scratch once more. Happy with the power and wealth in Do-hyuk’s mansion, she is trapped psychologically and physically. Getting more and more unstable, the finale showcases Jun-seo going against Ah-jin and exposing her in front of the media. When she still refuses to listen to him and give up her ambitions at the cost of others’ lives, he drives the car into the ocean.
However, in a twist of fate, Ah-jin survives the devastating fall, and with Jun-seo and Jae-oh now dead, no one survives to stop her from doing more harm.
