Hunter With a Scalpel Episode 3 Recap

The episode opens with another gruesome crime keeping Jung-hyun busy and worried, while Se-hyun and her team start to worry about Min-ho’s disappearance. As Jung-hyun and the other officers wonder whether it could be the same criminal behind the two crimes, considering they have found the thread in both, and rushes to get the autopsy done.

Hearing that the thread was found in the crime scene, Se-hyun also rushes to complete the autopsy, unable to shake the awful feeling that something is just not right. While performing the autopsy, the inhuman nature of the crime leaves the team squimish, especially when they realise that the cut-up body might be Min-ho’s! Se-hyun is left deeply affected, and it makes Jung-hyun take a moment as well when he realises who the victim is.

With the stakes getting higher, Se-hyun gets under scrutiny as her higher-ups ask her to bring the Nam Seung-hyup case to a close. However, she refuses and asks for a reexamination of the drug test. Tensions rise among the team as everyone tries to gang up on Se-hyun, but it seems as if Jung-hyun is the only one with some empathy towards her.

As the police start to question everyone at Min-ho’s workplace, along with their whereabouts, and Jung-hyun enquires whether Se-hyun knows why the perpetrator might dispose of Min-ho’s body where they did. Although she feigns ignorance, it’s clear that Se-hyun makes the connection with her past and might have an inkling about where this is going.

As the autopsy comes out with more and more evidence linking her past, Se-hyun is left furious and maybe a little scared as well. In a rare breakthrough, Jung-hyun’s team is able to find the vehicle responsible for dumping the first victim’s body and soon arrives at their doorstep for an arrest. Meanwhile, Se-hyun tries to pull off fingerprints from the transparent adhesive tape found at the scene and is able to pull a clear fingerprint.

We are in the third episode, and I am starting to wonder whether a film would’ve been a better idea for this series. Today’s episode picks up some pace, but we are still almost in the same spot as we have been for the past two episodes. I am starting to lose some interest, but oddly, I also have hope that something great can come out of it. I don’t know whether that makes me delusional, but the series really needs to pick up some pace to keep its viewers engaged. At 30 minutes, it’s not awful, but it’s losing steam.
