Nine Puzzles Finale Predictions: Who Could be the Puzzle Killer?

Nine Puzzles Finale Predictions: Last week, we watched the first four episodes of the Kdrama series Nine Puzzles, in which Yoon I-na finds herself back in a dangerous serial killer’s attention when, 10 years after her own uncle’s mysterious murder, the perpetrator starts to kill more people. The only thing connecting these two situations is the puzzle pieces that the perpetrator leaves behind for I-na. In the meantime, she also starts working with Detective Kim Han-saem, who refuses to believe I-na’s version of the story and wholeheartedly believes that she was the only one who murdered her uncle.

It’s a race against time as they quickly try to uncover the next big clue that will blow this mystery wide open and give them a hint of who could be the next victim, as well as the perpetrator’s identity. We also see I-na and Han-saem’s relationship grow as they spend more time together.

Nine Puzzles Episode 5 Recap

Realising something more is underway, I-na and Han-saem decide to look deeper into Yoon Dong-hoon’s past and whether he was who he said he was. Through him, they learn about another serial murder case that he might have tried to keep under wraps and learns about a journalist’s death who was a part of the case. While going through Lee Gang-hyun’s crime scene photos, both are shocked to find another puzzle piece in one of the pictures.

Sure that the serial killer must’ve left some more clues behind in Lee Gang-hyun’s crime scene, they dig deeper, and Han-saem learns from one of the officers in the case that Yang Jung-ho was originally the officer in charge of the case and would know it inside out. Meanwhile, I-na is shocked to find the puzzle piece in the evidence box. Han-saem confronts Jung-ho, who diverts his attention to I-na, who was presumably in the apartment above Gang-hyun when he died, and her alibi was unclear during his time of death.

I-na goes to meet Oh Cheol-jin the next day, finding his name familiar among Gang-hyun’s call records, and Han-saem calls her that night to be told that she has been arrested on suspicion of murder. Confused and desperate, he tries to make her talk, but to no avail. He brings in Seung-joo as well, but that doesn’t help. Thankfully, she does hand over a puzzle piece connected to Cheol-jin’s death.

Nine Puzzles Episode 6 Recap

Han-saem is able to free I-na after she gives him a solid alibi, after which she looks into the people who visited her, starting with the two psychiatrists. Meanwhile, Han-saem looks into Jung-ho and realises that the night of Dong-hoon’s murder, he was close to his house and was unaccounted for the hours of Dong-hoon’s death window. As a task team is created and a full-fledged investigation is launched, the evidence piles up against Jung-ho. Han-saem organises a hypnosis session with Choi San and Yoon Go-eun, and after a rather long-drawn session, he is finally about to recognise the man as Jung-ho.

Nine Puzzles Episode 7 Recap

Jung-ho is arrested, and the team starts to look into his involvement. However, everything points to him being a good person with no real reason to do this. I-na surmises that he must be doing this to protect someone and draw their eyes away from the real killer. Han-saem eventually lets him go and calls his bluff. Elsewhere, I-na grills Hwang In-chan.

The next day, Han-saem follows Jung-ho to a rather secluded farmland where two men are hunting. He notices someone pointing a gun at one of the men and saves him, running towards him before it’s too late. Han-saem, reaching a bit late, follows them, only to find Jung-ho on the ground with a gunshot wound. With his last breath, he tells Han-saem that all of this started because of him and that it’s not the kid’s fault. He tried to save the latest victim, but mentions that it might have been too late regardless. Then, he dies after saying “Shindonga… Seojin”.

Anyway, they dive deep into understanding Jung-ho’s last words as well as looking into the latest victim, Kwon Sang-beom. Meanwhile, I-na leaks the puzzles to the press to see whether they would respond… which they do. The perpetrator sends another puzzle piece to a news station, although Sang-beom is still alive. As Han-saem looks at the puzzle piece on the news, Sang-beom starts to convulse and suddenly dies right in front of him.

After all the episodes till now, I think it’s safe to say that this has something to do with the orphanage and the amusement park. My best guess is that all the victims till now have been hurting children from the orphanage in some way or another, and one of the victims is now taking revenge. Jung-ho knew about it because he was close to the children and took care of them even after they aged out of the system. Although it’s difficult to understand who the actual murderer is but it’s definitely someone who was a part of the orphanage which housed I-na, Jung-ho and all the other children.
