6 Ranveer Singh Performances

Band Baaja Baaraat (2010)

Ranveer Singh’s debut performance in the romantic comedy Band Baaja Baaraat couldn’t have been better. Playing a Delhi college boy Bittoo who doesn’t want to go back home and plans to “partner” with Anushka Sharma’s Shruti in her wedding planning business, the actor nails his part. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Debut (Male) that year. Surprisingly, it was also the directorial debut of Maneesh Sharma, who too won the Filmfare.

Lootera (2013)

Based on O. Henry’s The Last Leaf, the film is directed by Vikramaditya Motwane. With the 1950s as the backdrop, Ranveer plays the role of Varun, a conman who poses as an archaeologist to woo a Bengali Zamindar and his daughter Pakhi only to steal the artefacts in their possession. The actor brings out his most held-back acting ever in my humble opinion; blending quietness and shyness to the point where he doesn’t let us realize that he has a different intention altogether.

Bajirao Mastaani (2015)

You must have seen this film. If not, this should be the first one you should see. Ranveer plays the role of Peshwa Bajirao in this Sanjay-Leela-Bhansali epic and steals the show. He received a National Award for this one. The rage of a warrior, the care of a husband and the fierceness of a lover, along with the emotional turmoil that all three of these bring about inside him, have been addressed beautifully by the actor.

Padmaavat (2018)

Ranveer’s chilling portrayal of Sultan Alauddin Khilji, the antagonist in the film, was something the audience didn’t expect at all. The unhinged side of the character that he subtly pulled off is commendable. Another film by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Padmaavat also stars Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor, but both of their roles have been eclipsed by our former Bittoo.

Gully Boy (2019)

In Gully Boy, Ranveer took upon to role of Murad, a college student hailing the slums of Dharavi, Mumbai. He dreams of becoming a rapper although his father is completely against it. As always with Ranveer, he immerses himself in the character; even performing the raps and the poems in the film. Directed by Zoya Akhtar, the musical also stars Rani AKA Alia Bhatt as Safeena, Murad’s girlfriend.

Dil Dhadakne Do (2015)

Another venture by Zoya Akhtar, Dil Dhadakne Do shows the functioning of the high society and how complicated it can be, especially emotionally. Ranveer plays the role of Kabir Mehra, son of Kamal Mehra (Anil Kapoor), a wealthy businessman. Kabir doesn’t want to be a part of the family business and intends to be a pilot. This is one of the many issues that he is a part of, all of which make him feel lost in an environment where no one else seems sane. The actor knocks it out of the park yet again with his portrayal.
