The Good Bad Mother Poster: Ra Mi-ran and Lee Do-hyun Make an Unconventional Family

The Good Bad Mother Poster stars Ra Mi-ran and Lee Do-hyun as a mother-son duo, who don’t exactly see eye to eye with each other. It is an upcoming family drama series, directed by Shim Na-yeon and the screenplay is written by Bae Se-youn. It’s a JTBC drama which is produced by DramaHouse, SLL and FilmMonster.

The ensemble cast of the series includes Ra Mi-ran as Jin Young-soon, Lee Do-hyun as Choi Kang-ho, Ahn Eun-jin as Lee Mi-joo, Yoo In-soo as Bang Sam-shik, Jung Woong-in as Oh Tae-soo, Choi Moo-sung as Song Woo-byeok, Kim Won-hae, Seo Yi-sook as Ms Park, Jang Won-young as Mr Bang, Kang Mal-geum as Ms Jung, Baek Hyun-jin, Hong Bi-ra as Oh Ha-yeong, Park Da-on as Seo-jin, and Ki So-yu as Ye-jin among others.

The Kdrama is said to be a mix of family drama and comedy, which follows the story of a single mother Jin Young-soon & her struggles to bring up her son Choi Kang-ho, whom she wants to succeed no matter what. Young-soon runs a pig farm in the Jowoori village & that’s the place where Kang-ho was brought up until adulthood.

Not wanting her son to grow up poor or without any significant position in society, Young-soon was always strict with her son & took on the role of a ‘bad mother’, as long as he did well in life. Thanks to her discipline, Kang-ho grows up to be a prominent prosecutor, but grows indifferent and apart from his mother, as he only sees her in a negative light.

But life takes a turn for both of them when he meets with an accident and loses his memories. All he can remember is being a 7-year-old and behaving like that only. He is forced to move back again to his village and under the care of his mother, who might have to take up the role of being a strict bad mother, to bring him back to his feet.

In the released poster, we see both the leading characters standing in front of the pig farm, signifying the kind of life they live. While Kang-ho is suited up and holding a bouquet of flowers. His attire looks like graduating from college but there’s no expression on his face, he stands stoically. Meanwhile, his mother is happy that her son has been able to reach a milestone closer to a successful life.

In the poster, there’s a line written on the pig house which literally translates to, “all the mothers in the world are bad.” It reflects Kang-ho’s perspective toward his own mother & projecting it onto everyone. While the adult Kang-ho despises his mom, going back to his childhood self might give him the chance to re-live those moments and maybe see her in a different light.

The Korean title of the show reads ‘나쁜엄마‘ which translates to bad mother. The show will track the journey of recovering relationships between the duo as they relearn to live & get to know each other better. Recently Lee Do-hyun was seen in The Glory where his likeable character is winning all the hearts & is making fans even more excited to see him in a new role soon.

It also stars Ahn Eun-jin as Lee Mi-joo, who is Kang-ho’s old friend and the one to understand him best. She is popularly known for her role in the drama Hospital Playlist and it will be interesting to see her in the leading role.

Yoo In-soo, who is known for his role in All of Us Are Dead and in the recent Alchemy of Souls drama will also be playing the role of a troublemaker in Kang-ho’s village. Having seen him play a negative character in the zombie series, there’s no doubt that he will bring the same to this role as well. Also, with actor Kim Won-hae in the cast, we can expect some top-notch comedy in the show.

The Good Bad Mother is scheduled to be released on 26th April 2023 on JTBC at 10:30 PM KST and will also be available for streaming on Netflix.
