5 Simple Ways You Can Help Prevent the Spread of COVID-19

Wash your hands — all the time!

Get your hands all soapy, scrub off the fingertips, and thoroughly wash to clear out any dirt. This is one of the most important and simplest ways to stay away from the virus. Even without the pandemic, one should take care of hygiene with handwashing being the most effective way to prevent illness and infections in general. It kills viral particles that may end up on your hands that could get transmitted to you from people outside.

Also, whenever you cough or sneeze, remember to use a tissue or cover your nose/mouth with your elbow. Wash your hands immediately afterwards or use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol content. This will help prevent the spread of germs or viral particles.

Just stay home if you’re not feeling well

One should opt for Work from home whenever possible and avoid public transportation or travelling for leisure. In case you’re not working, try not to indulge in negativity or stress about the pandemic. Focus on keeping a positive outlook during these distressing times by catching up with your friends and family, learning a new skill, or just enjoying a good Netflix show. If you have symptoms of regular flu (which COVID-19 may imitate) and no prior medical conditions, you should absolutely stay inside and refrain from going out. Seek a medical professional about the same as soon as possible.

On the other hand, people who are 60+ in age, are pregnant or suffer from a prior medical condition such as heart disease or diabetes, should consult with a doctor as soon as they notice any symptom. Don’t ignore even if the symptoms are mild, it’s important to get medical assistance and get the relevant tests done as soon as possible.

Always wear masks and gloves

If you absolutely need to leave the house, always wear a mask and try to maintain six feet distance when around others. Try to avoid large gatherings and do follow your local government’s regulations regarding travel, outdoor dining, shopping, and other such daily activities.

While doing house chores or stepping outside, always remember to wear gloves. Don’t forget to wear them even if you go grocery shopping. Using gloves reduces the risk of any germs coming in contact with the bare skin thereby ensuring that germs don’t transmit onto our hands or any other surfaces. Remember to immediately dispose of them after using them to prevent any scare.

Be diligent about disinfecting

Sanitize, Sanitize and Sanitize! Certainly, you have heard this word a million times by now but that’s the safest way to go about tackling the whole pandemic. Thoroughly sanitize all commonly used surfaces — cabinets, countertops, bathrooms, remotes, mobile, tv, computers and other essential gadgets with disinfectant wipes/spray.

If you going to the gym, wipe down machines and weights before using them and maintain a distance of 6 feet between you and the other members. If you are ordering food from outside or bringing home any kind of package, clean that with a disinfectant so as to prevent the entry of any germs inside your house.

Keep your air conditioner vents clean and your home well-ventilated

Air conditioning vents often become a breeding space for the novel coronavirus and many other germs for that matter. Proper cleaning of the AC units is crucial, more so with the split air conditioner units. These function by recycling the air present inside a room.

Scientists have figured that any room or area that’s not well ventilated, risks higher chances for viruses like COVID-19 to breed. Ensuring fresh air ventilation reduces the risk of spreading infection, to a great extent. Make sure, before you pay a visit to any place outdoors, to check that the place has good ventilation. If the room smells stale or too humid, it could indicate a problem with the ventilation.
