5 Netflix Thai Horror Movies to Watch If You Love the Chills!

Thai horror movies are all the rage right now and for good reason – the creators of these movies set them apart from that of others in the most interesting ways possible. Firstly, Thai horror movies explore some very interesting and taboo subjects that one wouldn’t get in English horror movies – infusing traditional folklore and traditions, these movies are a blend of interesting subjects that are relatable and thus, with a horror twist, they become extremely disturbing to watch. Plus, incorporating themes of revenge, karma and psychological thrills, Thai horror movies make for the perfect blend of psychological torture and pure thrill.

Of course, these movies don’t only have psychological aspects – a big part of these movies are traditional supernatural thrills blended with societal problems. However, it’s the way these supernatural elements are added that sets them apart from other movies of the genre. With little gore or unnecessary jumpscares, the atmospheric horror of these movies makes for a thrilling watch. Introducing fresh narratives into our watchlist, Netflix Thai horror movies, thus, are the perfect watch for those who are thinking of watching something not only horrifying but also thoroughly uncomfortable and too relatable for comfort!

Home For Rent (2023)

home for rent review

Starring Nittha Jirayungyurn and Sukollawat Kanarot in lead roles, this horror movie is the perfect blend of emotions and psychological thrill, leaving viewers feeling extremely disturbed by the end. The storyline follows Ning and her family, who come in harm’s way when she rents her house out to two women who turn out to be part of a cult.

The storyline seamlessly brings supernatural horror and social commentary together and gives viewers a grim atmosphere that makes us fear the characters constantly. It’s a slow burn in a way, wherein although you feel like there’s something wrong with the new tenants, it’s not until later that things get dark and deadly. The film also explores the lives of the characters and their connection to each other, which makes us root for them. Ning is a very watchable protagonist who is unable to wrap her head around the circumstances surrounding her at first but fights for her life regardless. She is relatable and strong, something that we usually don’t get in horror movies.

Thus, in the end, although some of the scares are a little cliched, Home For Rent is definitely an enjoyable watch that keeps us hooked till the end.

The Whole Truth (2021)

The Whole Truth

This horror movie makes us feel like we are about to watch The Visit, but we soon realise that that’s not the case at all! Starring Sompob Benjathikul, Sadanont Durongkaweroj and Steven Isarapong in lead roles, the movie a pair of siblings who find a strange hole in the wall in their grandparent’s house. Confused about what it is, the two start to investigate but find themselves in a very shocking situation.

With several different plotlines taking place in a single movie, The Whole Truth will literally keep you on the edge of your seat. There’s bullying, ghosts and a pair of creepy grandparents who we aren’t sure whether they are who they say they are. The premise doesn’t even begin to describe everything that the movie holds, which is both a positive and a negative. There is something or the other for everyone and viewers will find themselves wide-eyed and confused as they watch these kids trying to figure out what is happening in their grandparents’ house while also going through the motions of their own lives.

The Maid (2020)

The Maid Netflix

In this horror movie starring Savika Chaiyadej, Teerapat Sajakul and Ploy Sornarin in lead roles, the newest housekeeper Joy finds out that her ultra-rich employers have many secrets and skeletons in the closet. Soon, she digs deeper into the mysterious happenings in the house and finds something deplorable.

What sets The Maid apart is its effective use of psychological horror and atmospheric tension. The film builds a sense of dread through eerie visuals, creepy sound design, and unsettling storytelling. The haunted mansion setting adds to the overall ambience, creating a hauntingly beautiful backdrop for supernatural occurrences. Along with these, the themes explored in this movie are extremely interesting, with redemption, betrayal and guilt taking centre stage and creating an ambience that mixes the supernatural and reality in effective ways. The strong performances of the cast are also an added advantage and you root for Joy throughout the runtime of the movie which adds to the watchability of the film.

Ghost Lab (2021)

Starring Thanapob Leeratanakachorn, Paris Intarakomalyasut and Nuttanicha Dungwattanawanich in lead roles, showcases two doctors who, after witnessing a ghostly incident in the hospital, decide to do what it takes to prove that ghosts are real. The movie goes from 0 to 100 in a truly shocking turn of events and what starts off as a cute experiment soon turns into a dark and dreary watch that will make you question every character in the movie. It’s the sudden twist and the atmosphere of the film that does it for me.

Blending science fiction, psychological horror and supernatural horror elements, the movie gives us a deep look at the psychology of human beings and how far they will go in order to get what they want. The film explores themes of obsession, the thin line between curiosity and danger, and the consequences of meddling with forces beyond human understanding. It’s the madness of the characters that makes us question their every move making us wonder for a big chunk of the runtime whether this is just simple morbid curiosity or something more sinister. Of course, we get the answer in the end, but by then the movie has already blown our minds!

Inhuman Kiss (2019)

Inhuman Kiss - Netflix Thai Horror Movies

“Inhuman Kiss” is notable for its unique take on the Krasue legend, blending horror elements with romance, drama, and coming-of-age themes. The film explores complex emotions and societal stigma through the lens of supernatural folklore, offering a fresh perspective on traditional Thai myths. The visual effects and makeup work to bring the Krasue to life are also commendable, adding to the film’s eerie atmosphere and suspenseful moments.

The movie follows Sai, a young girl who inherits the Krasue curse and then struggles to come to terms with it. With societal stigma threatening her very existence, she must depend on her friends to help her navigate her new condition but things become a challenge when new complications arise. The relationship between the friends, the struggle of adolescence and the weight of superstitions all hang heavy in this movie that doesn’t waste time giving us a thrilling and emotional watch.
